The most curious fact is that Dumoulin lost the most time on the hill where he supposed to be the best.

That could hint at the fact that he's not in his best shape after the high level double.
Still very good though.

Amazing season by Dumoulin, if he'd won today he'd deserve rider of the year in my books (albeit the road race will still happen), for such a consistent season across the whole year. As it is he's still very close.

Great ride by Campenearts as well, next year he could be the favourite if riders like Dennis and Dumoulin do not put as much attention into it.

Very happy for Dennis and Australia, hopefully his ride makes up for how bad our chances will be for the men's RR, though Spratt and Kennedy have a chance to medal.

Great, great performance by Dennis. Campenaerts -- very strong. Dumoulin -- disappointed but nevertheless a very strong ride, too. It's so hard to try to do what he did this year -- contending for top spots on GC in grand tours while still honing the edge for ITTs. I wonder if he just sacrificed a bit of power to be in better climbing form for the grand tours. And yet, today, Dennis was a little better on the climb, even. Hats off to Dennis.

Dennis destroyed them all.
Dumoulin not on his best form but would never have won this. Dennis is now clearly the best pure time triallist

Anyway Dennis deserves this. He had so much misfortune at WC TT and Olympic TT events, lost so many medals due to crashes and mechanicals... Finelly everything went fine for him.

Campenaerts very happy with bronze. Would have preferred silver obviously, but doesn't seem too bummed about losing silver with half a second. Thought a medal would be for later in his carreer, even though he knew there was a possibility despite the climb favoring other riders. When he heard his time was being compared to Dumoulins, he was suprised and ecstatic. Didn't have the power anymore for his usual sprint in the final 500 meters, maybe that's what cost him silver.

Yeah, this wasn't a rolling ITT. This was the kind of ITT with both extremes which simply punishes you if you're not in top shape. Dumoulin could've won this if this were in the middle of a GT, but not today

Am I the only one not surprised by the outcome at the top? Although I said I was looking forward to the Dennis vs Dumoulin battle, I had a pretty strong feeling Rohan would destroy the field. He really is a monster TT rider and fully deserves the rainbow jersey. He's been hands down the best TT rider of the year.
For Dumoulin it's been a very long and successful season. Today's performance is somewhat expected although the gap is bigger than I thought it would be. He has to be tired. I don't know what to expect from him in the RR. If I have to make a prediction, I don't think he can challenge for a medal.
Campenaerts surprised me today. I didn't expect him to do this well on a course like this. Congrats to all three medallists.

Dumoulin has no shot at the road race.

Dennis might be Australia's best option for the road race.

Kwiatkowski surprised me today.

Yes... great news from Innsbruck!
Dennis finally overcame his bad luck and really smashed 'em all.
Kwiatek with 4th position.. not so bad.

Yeah that climb was always gonna be affected by the 30km of flat beforehand. Dumoulin clearly dug a lot deeper on that part than Dennis did.

It's clear that he's not in top shape. He'll need to anticipate come Sunday.

Mixed season for Dumoulin. Good all year, but the big wins are lacking.

yeah if Dumoulin loses time on a climb to Dennis, no offense to Dennis, he has absolutely 0 chance on Sunday.

Think he might go into attacking early for Poels or Mollema or someone else

This type of climbing is very different to climbing in a road race though. The hour long intensity isn't there, but the endurance might be more up to standard, although he's not fresh.

Dennis not known for one day form but will probably handle the course as well as Haig.

49.585 km/h on a course like this has to be one of the all-time great TT performances.

It is, for sure.

1:21 is the biggest margin since Cancellara murdered the world in Mendrisio 2009. Which in my eyes was the strongest ITT performance in the history of the World Championships. But this comes close.

The time gap is actually pretty similar to last year. The course was much shorter last year and Dumo had almost 1 minute on Roglic and 1'21 to Froome.. so

Am I the only one thinking that Dennis might have a chance to challenge the hour record with this shape?
He had to climb 5Kms and still got closer to 50KPH
