Yeah, he was a bit emotional and tbh I think that's ok, because Stigger's win is a big surprise

What's a real pity - my office is some 50m from the finish area and I would have loved to cheer for Stigger and the other two at the medal ceremony - they (and all the other winners so far and to come) would deserve a bigger crowd.

But the finish area is a "ticket only" area, but just out of principal I dind't get one (gonna watch the Elite races along the course).


At the beginning of September we had the Climbin Word Championships here in Innsbruck as well.
The medal ceremonies were held at the "Marktplatz" (market square) and open to all - well, you should have seen the "party" and cheering there...that was really worthy for a Worlds

I read it's something along 95 € to be at the finish?

Yes, 95,- EUR for the whole 8 days (including all the concerts in the evening).
It's not expensive, but for me that's not the point.

I am not interested in any concerts (even though they have some nice local bands playing there) - it's all about the Worlds and I think it would be fair towards the cyclists to receive as much attention as possible.
And that's pretty limited with a ticket-only area for the medal ceremony...

I think it's mainly relatives (moms, dads, grandparents, spouses,....) and internatiional fans/visitors - i don't know too many locals who bought a ticket...

I think the price is okayish considering what prices one usually has to pay to attend sport events, but then again for a cycling race this simply feels wrong. Isn't it the great thing about cycling, that you can see the riders without paying for it? I guess most cycling fans will just stand somewhere else along the track but it's a pity that because of this so many will miss stuff like the ceremonies.
Economically probably the right decision but I'm still not a fan.

The thing is, she actually doesn't have interest in road racing and doesn't plan to ride road races in the future. A bit underwhelming to hear that from someone who is now junior WC on the road but we will see. Maybe she changed her mind today

I don't know how much money there is in women's road racing, but if she's aiming at the Olympics, then mountain biking certainly is the better bet.

If I am not completely mistaken - by 16.30 (Innsbruck time) they won#t even have reached Innsbruck - and then there are still two rounds on the Olympia-circuit
