I'm not sure who is on the starting list. But i guess you could take a look at the Tour de l'Avenir GC to get an idea of who might be interesting to watch. There are also a few that have already turned pro, that are competing. I know Lambrecht is, but Sivakov did the elite ITT, so i'm guessing he's out.

EDIT: what ZL said ^

At least he has cycling culture, did say he'd like to win a grand tour, not just the TdF.
Well, I think he didn't say "a grand tour" but "three grand tours" so it was hard to mention which one is the greatest.

I'm already curious how we will look back at this race in 10 to 15 years because it will probably either be the signature win of the most overhyped junior ever, or the start of a legendary career.
There is no single possibility of it being somewhere in the middle.

In fact, it's not even mutually exclusive.

Apparently the Spanish airlines has made it so the majority of the Spanish men's team can't get to Innsbruck today. They delayed their flight from Granada to Madrid to the point they were not allowed to catch their flight from Madrid to Munic and it took the airlines several hours to find them a new flight tomorrow to eventually get them to Italy at some point tomorrow. With several issues with riders and flights in Spain, I've come to the conclusion that Spanish airlines are as much as US airlines are.

To me:

Top favourite: Lambrecht
Podium contenders: Stannard, Hayter, Mäder, Padun
Outsiders: Madouas, Hirschi, Almeida, Eenkhoorn, Covi, Sean Bennett, Paredes
Need a solo to win: Sosa (he seems to be in awful form though), Pogacar, Dunbar, Powless, McNulty

It will be interesting to see whether Australia support Stannard or Hamilton - Both can have a good race.

Did you move up Lambrecht, after the Vuelta? I seem to remember you didn't have him pegged as the top favorite a few weeks ago. I think he's a contender, but i'm not so sure if he's top dog. He does climb rather well and he is rather fast in the sprint. So... he certainly does have a shot. He also surprised me in the stage Rodriguez won.

Btw, anyone else who thought Mayrhofer's style kind of resembled Sagan?
Yes, and he also has a good sprint, a decent engine and he can climb pretty well.
Kinda surprised to see Piccolo finish ahead of Vacek on such a hard circuit, but a pleasant surprise (apparently the Sunweb development team wants to sign him).
I'd also mention ta Austrians as dangerous utsiders, Gall and Brkic are really strong and Neunhauser and Gamper are also good riders, they have a decent team.
The Germans are bringing Kämna (you'd really tink that thy could use him in the pro race) and Zimmerman, no idea what to expect from that team.

Hamilton is not starting afterall. Stannard is for sure a joker if he has a good day but I guess it will most likely be for Hindley now.

As far as I remember that was the only recent time the break of the day won
And yet no flops. Every rider in the top 10 was a decent pro.

Chapeau Evenepoel! Proved he's the best at the moment in the juniors. Be interesting to see him step up to U-23s and how it goes at QS. (that QS have Evenepoel & Mas is mind-boggling)

Wait is there no MTF for the U23s?

There isn’t a MTF in any race this week.

Not really sure what to expect from the u23 race as it’s hard to judge riders who have been riding profesionally vs the riders who have been battling it out in the u23 category.

Looking at Lambrecht for instance: a year ago he was probably the best climber after Bernal in the u23 ranks but has been rather unimpressive this year imo. On the other hand he is perhaps the fastest of the top climbers in this race and has a WT season under his belt which is not insignificant. Did look okay in La Vuelta as well.

Personally i fancy Dunbar’s chances. Has been flying lately and gives off more of a one-day racer vibe than some of the other climbers here (Sosa, Pogacar etc).

I dont really believe in Sosa that much, climbing alone is not enough and he lacks versatility. Pogacar has a way better chance I think, he seems like a smart rider and will likely be one of the strongest uphill.

Mäder is a proper dark horse too and then there is of course the Australians who have a stacked team. Question is if Stannard goes uphill well enough because he can certainly finish.

Lambrecht won his first WT race, an uphill sprint against Boasson Hagen and Albasini. He did very well in the TDS, only lost his GC because he can't ITT at all. Of all the guys that can go uphill, he may be one of the fastest in the sprint.

But i don't think i'd call him the top favorite. But, DNP-Old does, and he's a usually better informed, so who knows :)

Well that was impressive. Quickstep will be very happy.

Italy had three riders in the top ten. Might be pondering over their tactics but would it have changed the result ?
Without the crash, everything might have been different. Quite a few teams were severely handicaped.
But sure, given these circumstances, Italy could have done better. maybe they could have got silver.

Well and what a stupid crash that last one was.

Tomorrow will be really interesting, not only for the racing, but also because I think tomorrow will be the first proper indicator of how selective the race on sunday will be.

Jesus Christ, I’ve been under the impression that the final climb in the men’s race was to the finish line all along. I may have been talking even more nonsense than usual if I made any other predictions earlier in this thread.

Watching yesterday's action for the second time this evening/night, since I missed it directly... It was good, very good.
The girls were combative and Remco out of this world.
I can't wait for the weekend.

Maybe a stupid question, but anyone driving from Vienna to Innsbruck and back on sunday? I don't have any friends who would be interested and driving alone is too expensive for me, would rather take the train in that case.

The only thing I've said regarding Lambrecht and his chances in Innsbruck is that I think he is the top favourite, but apart from Crass, don't really like his team. I think you got me confused with someone else there. :p
