Not a super-great day on Wall St. today... and then there is this;

"Don't look now. But even as the bank bailout is winding down, another huge bailout is starting, this time for the Social Security system.

A report from the Congressional Budget Office shows that for the first time in 25 years, Social Security is taking in less in taxes than it is spending on benefits.

Instead of helping to finance the rest of the government, as it has done for decades, our nation's biggest social program needs help from the Treasury to keep benefit checks from bouncing -- in other words, a taxpayer bailout."

Oh well. I guess we could sell Yosemite to pay for all this.

I leave and there are two freaking posts. I am tired of driving this thread! Hugh, get off my wheel and take a pull, ...lazy sandbagger...

Buckwheat and Scott don't appear to getting along very well, so I guess all is not lost. Thank God for small favors.

Geez, Buckwheat, do you ever diverge from the moveon script? What a yawner your solutions are. 50% tax for millionaires? Why? So they can use the other half to selfishly save for retirement and their own kids' educations. Kill the rich (with taxes). That's what they are doing in New York and Jersey. Why not like at least 80-85%? How much is too much?? To heck with that! We need to start talking about how little is too little. And stop allowing them to move out of the higher tax states and manipulate their income. Let Obama's IRS decide what they would have made before they decided to evade taxes by earning less and tax them on THAT. Hah!

All those Soc Security IOU's are starting to trickle down, as payrolls dry up. Oh well, fire up ye ole printing press and start paying off the bond holders with worthless paper. Chumps!

Looks like Europe is in some serious shiite. dammit, I was hoping they could wait until TFF got there.

Dow right at 10k. Serves those capitalist pigs right, them and their ownership of the means of production. It's Obama's world now, y'all are just livin' in it.

More lying or just ignorance? The night of the election of Brown, many Dems said they wouldn't do anything on HCR until Brown was seated including Obama. They should have pushed Senate bill thru.

Yes, which made his statement about driving a stake thru HCR somewhat ironic.

You're irrelevant. We were talking about someone who, unfortunately, matters. Playgirl Brown.

Yes, the house of cards, bubble thing did get big, but then collapsed, primarily from the deregulation you guys are so fond of.

Why are you attacking strawmen? When did I ever say it was all Bush's fault? It is for the most part the fault of Republicans though. Clinton wasn't forced into repealing Glass Steagall by liberals was he?

Name one Republican who was against repealing Glass Steagall.

Nafta and other WTO stuff wasn't pushed by liberals? The pressure for all that crap came from the RIGHT.

1st thing, I'd fire Geitner, Summers, and disassociate from Rubin.

2nd thing, hire Reich, Stiglitz, Krugman and Kucinich.

2a I'd ram through HCR with a strong public option and looking in the future towards single payer.

3rd. Pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan before Labor Day.

4th Re establish WPA and push thru an infrastructure stimulus package. I'd launch a masssive campaign showing Republicans at ribbon cutting ceremonies of infrastructure projects they voted against.

At the beginning of my second term, I'd raise top tax rates for those making over $5M to 50%.

Does that answer your question?

Oh yeah, massive reconstruction of Haiti, and humanitarian intevervention in Congo and Darfur.

What would you do?

Ok, so when was Brown elected?

I agree with your first step.

I disagree with your 2nd step. Two Keynesian's and two lunatics. You could do better.

I disagree with 2a as it will bankrupt the US. Private maket solutions. They are out there.

Don't care for your 3rd point as the re-constituted Taliban and Al Qaeda will have a state from which to operate. Not a particularly good idea unless you don't mind dead bodies in our streets.

Disagree on the 4th point. I don't have the energy to explain.

Why stop your tax rate at 50%? The same applies to minimum wage. If $8.50/hr is good, wouldn't $25 be better? I mean, why stop there?

Haiti... I'm quite sure you'll get your wish on that. I wish there were a way we could help those folks without the monetary support going straight in to the pockets of a corrupt few.

Humanitarian intervention... with the military? I wonder how we would be recieved there? Probably upset a fair number of Europeans looking at us as occupying yet again.

If you were running for political office I would not vote for you.

Well I was gonna respond to the obvious holes in your logic, but then I thought WTF bother. If I raise a good point you'll just ignore it or attempt to pigeon hole it with one of your handy neocon phrases, like you did with Buckwheat.
I can't help entertain you but if it's any consolation I'm not sucking your wheel, I'm riding by in the other direction and waving as you wobble past.

I'm not going to kill the rich with taxes. Anyway, if they're in need of aid there will be a social safety net.

No need to kill the rich as they'll be contributing mightily to some other Country's economy. But you will certainly kill excellence, innovation and ambition. Incentive is the key and you will kill that deader than a door nail.

Browns election was recent. Even if what you say is true the Dems have had more than 1 year to power through whatever they wanted. The fact that your side is fractured is hardly the repubs fault. Yet, you blame it on them because that what excell at.

No doubt the bad guys are here. I guess we should just surrender.

You are not exposing republicans at anything. In fact, as far as that goes, the dems have been exposed. They don't want to own healthcare all by themselves, with no repub support, so when it becomes a monumental disaster they will not be able to blame anybody but themselves. They know it, the repubs know it, they know that we know that they know it and that's why your side didn't have the courage to shove it down the Country's throat.

Why stop at 70%? Dig deep into you suitcase of courage, go higher. What's your problem with the poor??? How the hell can you expect a family of four to make ends meet at $10/hr? You need to check yourself. Your new name is Mr. Meanspirit.

Haliburton = Boogeyman. We got it already. That is so 'Iraq war'. Time to move on.

I thought it's imperitive to be well liked in the world. I'm trying to be sensitive to the world's feelings and you kick me in the balls for it. Thanks. Thanks alot.

I was thinking more of the Charlie Sheen's and Alec Baldwin's. And Cher. Barbara Streisand. Ed Begeley, Jr. (just on the freak factor alone). Sean Penn. Danny Glover.

I'm sure the average person will be quick to trade their 25-28 % tax bracket for the 40-50% that most European countries are running.

I never said the Dems have a backbone. Their problem was having these town halls and then listening to the nutjobs that showed up. The Dems won big in Nov and started with this bipartisan nonsense led by Obama.

Scott SoCal said:

There you go again. Who said anything about surrendering? It's a Law Enforcement issue, not a war issue. Even the Bush administration saw it that way under AG Mukasey. Speaking of War, how many Republicans aren't chickenhawks and have served? Are you like one of the fans of say, the Colts, who say; 'we won the Super Bowl.' We? please.

hey they're also in Carbon Capture and Storage. Kinda goes against the Limbo talking points.

No. You just moved on from criticizing the current administration about their failure to live up to their promises and about the war, transparency, lobbyists, collecting data on its citizens, gitmo, spending, unemployment.

Y'know...the little things.

Your hypocrisy precedes you.

And you started sceaming about "terrorists" escaping in your neigborhood the day Obama started talking about closing Gitmo.
I am as sorry as anybody that Obama hasn't located the employment switch yet, but he is at least trying.
How about you, do you even have a job or do you just spend the whole day bitching on forums?

I don't believe I have said or done anything to earn that, but you are entitled to your own opinion. Just as you are entitled to your own ignorant opinion as to what sort of socioeconomic system would meet our needs as a nation.
But go ahead continue to espouse the politics of "Me Me Mine" it seems to make you a happy well adjusted individual.

Buckwheat, thanks for reminding me of Stiglitz. He was the guy that won a Nobel prize for showing that it is only under exceptional circumstances that markets are efficient. He also says that the economy would be in even worse shape without Obama's stimulus (though this is obvious).

This is why he is treated like a leper by the free-market fundies?

Also, I don't know why you peeps haven't added Ravens to your ignore lists yet, he's an obvious troll. My quality of life has increased heaps since doing so. :)
