Tank Abbott will make a great Prime Minister.

.....sadly, I can't say I'm totally surprised..... Rupert Murdoch has been pimping for Abbott in his media outlets, so it looks like Rupert got the best government money can buy.....

Cheers

Well done Abbott :D

He has won, by slightly less than I was expecting. There have been some pretty surprising seat results - Eden-Monaro looking to break its bellwether status, Clive Palmer's possible victory, Sophie Mirabella possibly losing her seat, and the libs picking up less in QLD & NSW then expected.

I expect the postals, in the majority, to go the way of the liberals. So your possibilities may just turn out to be just that possibilities that end up going the way of the liberals :p

Postals usually do go the way of the incumbent, in large due to organisational & funding reasons. I'm pretty sure funding won't be an issue for Palmer, so imagine he conducted a pretty good postal & pre-poll campaign. I'm surprised that he even got close to be honest.

That's Rudd. He is delusional, if you didn't know already?

I'm well aware of his shortcomings. I think he & his team are happy because they think it's a better result than Gillard would have achieved.

That's to be debated. With the losses in Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia that Rudd is likely to incur Gillard may have been able to stop that from happening - remember at the end of the day there wasn't too much for her to lose in Queensland anyway and Rudd hasn't picked up anything in Queensland and in fact is staring down the barrel of losing two seats there.

Attention will now turn to the Senate.

Glen Lazurus of the Palmer United Party is highly likely to win a seat in QLD. Liberals unlikely to win a 3rd seat in NSW. Possibility of a Greens spot in NSW, but too hard to call. Interestingly, Sarah Hanson Young from the Greens is likely to lose her Senate seat in SA. This is due to a very high vote for the Nick Xenophon group, who are likely to pick up 2 seats.

Given the nature of a Senate ballot, some of this prone to change a lot once the preferences are counted.

Edit: update - Xenophon has received more votes than the ALP. Staggering.

Veteran Intelligence Professionals Warn Obama on Syrian Intel

Despite the Obama administration’s supposedly “high confidence” regarding Syrian government guilt over the Aug. 21 chemical attack near Damascus, a dozen former U.S. military and intelligence officials are telling President Obama that they are picking up information that undercuts the Official Story.

MEMORANDUM FOR: The President
FROM: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS)
SUBJECT: Is Syria a Trap?
Precedence: IMMEDIATE

We regret to inform you that some of our former co-workers are telling us, categorically, that contrary to the claims of your administration, the most reliable intelligence shows that Bashar al-Assad was NOT responsible for the chemical incident that killed and injured Syrian civilians on August 21, and that British intelligence officials also know this. In writing this brief report, we choose to assume that you have not been fully informed because your advisers decided to afford you the opportunity for what is commonly known as “plausible denial.”

Putin says he's seen the debates in the Congress. A congressman asked Kerry if Al Qaeda was in Syria. He answered" no, in all responsability I'm telling you that they're not there". Yet we know that the main military branch of the opposition is the Al Nosra Front, linked with Al-Qaeda. The US know it.

Kerry lies and knows that he lies, it's pitiful !

According to everything that I have seen the main opposition force is the Free Syrian Army (SFA). By all accounts the Al-Nusra group 'supports' Al Qaeda but is technically not a 'part of' those criminals.

Has lost and will be sacked. The fact is he should have won. A normal candidate would have.

Agree. I can only gather that he got another chance because of his high profile father but no more. In many respects, it's tragic that he got judged so ruthlessly for not knowing the 6 point plan which has killed his political ambitions but then again it's only 6 main policy areas how hard can it be!!

On another note, there were a number of seats tonight that were thought to be held by labor that as the night progressed became doubtful - I suspect as the pre-polling and postal votes come in that those seats will fall further into doubt and should be in the hands of the coalition for about a 95 seat victory :)

His father branch stacked his area. Abbott did not want him preselected

The media got on top him and he never recovered. Going into hiding just made it worse but he did come across as clueless. Some of the questions he could not answer were pretty straightforward. He really should have won as his opponent was none too impressive either.

Can't wait to see Abbott actually talking with other world leaders. Should make for a solid montage of gaffes on youtube.

He couldn't do worse than Berlusconi or George Bush Jnr.

Yep and Rudd is so genuine...please

Abbott comes across as being straight talking and that will be something that is welcomed on the world stage.
