He has won, by slightly less than I was expecting. There have been some pretty surprising seat results - Eden-Monaro looking to break its bellwether status, Clive Palmer's possible victory, Sophie Mirabella possibly losing her seat, and the libs picking up less in QLD & NSW then expected.

Postals usually do go the way of the incumbent, in large due to organisational & funding reasons. I'm pretty sure funding won't be an issue for Palmer, so imagine he conducted a pretty good postal & pre-poll campaign. I'm surprised that he even got close to be honest.

With the losses in Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia that Rudd is likely to incur Gillard may have been able to stop that from happening - remember at the end of the day there wasn't too much for her to lose in Queensland anyway and Rudd hasn't picked up anything in Queensland and in fact is staring down the barrel of losing two seats there.

Glen Lazurus of the Palmer United Party is highly likely to win a seat in QLD. Liberals unlikely to win a 3rd seat in NSW. Possibility of a Greens spot in NSW, but too hard to call. Interestingly, Sarah Hanson Young from the Greens is likely to lose her Senate seat in SA. This is due to a very high vote for the Nick Xenophon group, who are likely to pick up 2 seats.
Given the nature of a Senate ballot, some of this prone to change a lot once the preferences are counted.
Edit: update - Xenophon has received more votes than the ALP. Staggering.

Agree. I can only gather that he got another chance because of his high profile father but no more. In many respects, it's tragic that he got judged so ruthlessly for not knowing the 6 point plan which has killed his political ambitions but then again it's only 6 main policy areas how hard can it be!!
On another note, there were a number of seats tonight that were thought to be held by labor that as the night progressed became doubtful - I suspect as the pre-polling and postal votes come in that those seats will fall further into doubt and should be in the hands of the coalition for about a 95 seat victory

The media got on top him and he never recovered. Going into hiding just made it worse but he did come across as clueless. Some of the questions he could not answer were pretty straightforward. He really should have won as his opponent was none too impressive either.
