Don't know about the shakes though...

I am just saying - when she came over to go to school she called me up demanding some American food that she was familiar with - we went to a McDonald's that had re-prints of wanted posters from the 1800s on the walls. The expression on her face was priceless. :D

What are these guys protesting for anyway? The conference is supposed to be made up mostly of people who support their ideas. Also, how will vandalizing a liberal city bring positive awareness for their cause?

What? Did my computron machine skip a page? Who's protesting? I thought we were talking about American food, like pizza.

Just happened to see an article on the protesting in Copenhagen and it drew my curiosity. Not my fault that educated Europeans think Pizza is American ;)

Ah hah, it does make more sense with the link.:)
I think we as Americans consume very little food that actually originated here.

Corn on the cob, corn meal mush, creamed corn > I am pretty sure all foods involving corn are American. Then there is the California vegetarian cuisine, the kind that is supposed to look and taste like meat but is not.

Yeah, corn is a good call. That vegetarian crap probably started in France though.

Off topic but what is American food anyway?

Sausage wrapped in a pancake on a stick. And here's a close-up.

I-can't-believe-it's-not-butter-spray (zero calories!).

The Monster burger. (Supersize with a small fries and a diet! coke).

To be fair: A lot of produce and fruit is excellent (in particular the California stuff, it's much better than comparable EU stuff), as is California wine (which I prefer over almost any French). Beef in general is also quite a bit better (if you go for the quality stuff).

As if anyone couldn't figure it out, but he is a diehard republican.

Quite I few Democrats were against desegregation in the south at the height of the greatest generation - personally, I have found racists in pretty much every political party.

You realize segregation created a philosophical switch in political parties. There were lots of old timer democrats that switched to the republican party as a result of civil rights movements and the Democrat leadership at that time.

I think the articles linked below articulate my concerns over the governments ability to run and insurance program.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/199167

And this is a problem the government has known for decades and yet has no plan in place to deal with the problem (the link below was an article written in 1976):

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,918028-1,00.html

The problem is that congress and the rest of the politicians and a large chunk of the population are afraid to properly fund anything in this country. All they can do is cut taxes, so we have a country that 45,000 people die every year of the 47 million people that have no insurance. The road are crumbling, bridges are collapsing while people are driving over them, law enforcement and fire fighters are getting let go all across the country. Our electrical grid is on the same level of third-world countries. People who graduate high-school don't know what the branches of government are and can't name their congressman or senator. Plus two-thirds of the country is fat. No wonder morons like Sara Palin that believe in witches and that humans and dinosaurs coexisted are so popular, we have become a nation of lazy, uneducated, easily distracted buffoons.

No mater how many times the US gets ranked 30 something on a list, it still won't matter. Americans twist it around in their mind that we have the best of everything even if we don't. As some of our WWII policies fray with time we won't let go because there are still enough people that know nothing better. There are a huge % of the power base that can't turn on a computer, need cell phones with big numbers and don't question anything the government puts in front of them.People have been getting their health care bought through their employer since the mid/late 40's. They have never had to find another way. People who started and finished at one job in one town are still alive, and in office. The rest of the economy that has bought and sold homes, switched jobs 10 times and cities they live in a half dozen times, and will possibly switch careers 5 times before retirement will have to wait for the greatest generation to die. As long as a measurable % of US citizens think it's unpatriotic/un_American to get health care for everybody we won't get health care for everybody. I was recently with an older family friend that told me there was very few places to eat in his neighborhood, I asked if he was kidding, top rated Indian,Sushi,Thai,Vegan,French and on and on he said he only likes "American food". He is 79 and looks like he can live another 40 years, thats when I think we will get everybody covered.

This is exactly what I believe also. All of the the scared old fuckers are screwing the rest of us. I recently read an article that said if people over 40 didn't vote we would have universal health coverage and same sex marriages would be legal. Your family friend sounds exactly like my father. They have been brainwashed their whole life's into thinking the American way is the best and only way and still believe that it is 1955.

I get it - Republicans = Racism

From my experience, the most prejudicial people out there are ones who profess to be liberal, it starts with the belief that conservatives are less intelligent (see the post just above this one for an example of someone with that mentality).

This is quite simple. All non-Caucasian groups in this country align with the democratic party because their interests are not served by the Republican party. Any attempt by the conservative party to assert anything different is a desperate attempt to grab more votes. It all might sound great on the surface until it is time to fund inner-city programs and other social services at the possible threat to defense spending.

So I am a prejudiced liberal? Why because I think Sara Palin is a stupid twit? Stupidity has no political affiliation, I know many democrats that don't know the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. I have as many conservative friends as I have liberal friends and I don't think one group is more intelligent than the other.

I was referring to your comment on the brainwashed people over 40. From your comments it appears we should not even have the right to vote.

I know quite a few Hispanics who are Republicans - and many of the Democratic Hispanics that I know are fairly conservative in the social outlook.

That would make for an instant improvement.

Very liberal thinking with thoughtful consideration for the rights of others, I am having difficulty distinguishing it from the viewpoints of the pre-civil war south however...

No, my girlfriend wouldn't like that as she is 10 years older than me and is over 40. She is also just as progressive as I am.
