I went to the post office around the New Year time frame. I really do not know what the day was but it was in Jan 2010. When I drove up I noticed across the street there was some tables set up with posters on them and people with clip boards. I figured some time of petition. When I walked up the entrance there was a man with some papers and clipboards with a poster sign draped over his neck (poster on the front and back of his torso) It was a poster of President Obama with a Hitler mustache photo shopped on. I was curious who the people were that had the balls to do such a thing. I walked up to the guy and he gave me the Larouche PAC spill. It made me mad as an American that this group openly defamed the President of the United States.


Another similar event happened to me with email. Without getting to deep into what I do for a living (take other countries Natural Resources) I receive quite a bit of what I like to call SPAM and other stupid nonsense. Every once and a while I receive something that sets me off, a few weeks ago I received an email from someone titled “First low flight over Texas”. It was a picture of Air force One and it had Bullet holes photo shopped into it. That picture made me so angry, because I take that as not only disrespect but a threat to the President of the United States. I do not like to joke on these types of matters. It may be funny for some but I take it seriously.

I did not vote for the President but I support the Office and his job. I do not have to like his policies but that does not make me correct either. I give him his due to run this country and I hope he does a good job because there are many items to address during his term.

The gobernment is out of pocket big time as it stands now, with no end in site to the people without healthcare who are defaulting financially because of hospital bills. Something is getting done about it now. Thank god for this brave legislation.

It is so easy to sit back and say "The government shouldn't have bailed out anyone" when they already did. See, we don't have to live in a world where the financial system collapsed because of the complete failure of the banking system. We don't have to recover from the massive failures in the automotive industry because of the failure of two of our countries automobile manufacturers. No, we now have an economy that is far from recovered, but FAR better than it would have been if left to the "just do nothing and let the invisible hand of the market take care of it" crowd. When market failures (the ignorant idea that this was a government failure has been dispelled for anyone with even a modicum of understanding regarding the collapse of the mortgage industry) cause instability to the point of eminent collapse, someone has to step in. All of the Adam Smith disciples in the world will never convince me that their method is superior to the collective knowledge of all of the major industrialized nations on the planet. Again, you have no real world examples of your theory at work in these instances. The Heritage Foundation and CATO institute can write all of the ivory tower ideas they want regarding the effect of government intervention in times of severe financial crisis, but they still have no example of any government of any major industrialized nation doing anything different than did we. The financial situation faced by Reagan was a kids game compared to the one faced by our government at the end of the Bush administration and the beginning of the Obama administration.

Throw all the barbs you want from the cheap seats, but the party of "no" is going to get their chance to affect government in a real way pretty soon. I am guessing that it will not take long for them to cave in to their principles just like they did during the 6 years they held sway in our most recent past. Even they know their rhetoric is unworkable within the REALITY of our system. Snake oil salesman to the rescue!!!

Are you guys really ignorant of the reality of the effect letting them fail would have had on our economy? Seriously, the list of companies that would not have survived is incredibly long. It is almost like you believe the effects of such a failure to be benign. The failure of that system would have been devastating beyond comprehension. If we had done things the way of the party of "NO," most of us would be scratching for food today. There is no market in the absence of capital. Again, the theory that markets run better un-regulated is fanciful ivory tower economics. It is also one that Republicans can tout with reverence and moral certainty because their MO is to talk one way and spend like a bipolar man in the throes of mania in practice.

I don't like the too big to fail argument. Capitalism is why the buggy whip industry no longer works.. GM needed to fail cuz their structure is not viable. It won't be viable 5 years from now either. Then what?

I wonder when small biz is going to get a break from the banks. I have awesome credit, very little debt vs. income, tons of collateral, and I can't even get a 10k loan from my bank to invest into the carbon wing of my bike wheel company, which isn't much of a starting inventory for something like that. Is there some kind of freeze on small biz loans? I couldn't get a straight answer from my banker, just "no, not at this time, nobody's getting anything". Before the fiscally conservative Conservatives just about single-handedly killed our economy, a 10k loan to small biz was standard issue. What's going on?

While I agree that the economy would currently be in the grave had GM or the banking system completely collapsed, I suspect that we have passed the inevitable down a few years - kind of a live for today mentality (but then again, ostriches with their heads in the sand are probably happier than the zebra who see the lion coming with his claws out).

With a total collapse of the banking system, and the disappearance of the paper wealth that exists on the planet, I think we could have seen more than a few years. From what I have read, that was the real fear. You domino all of the institutions, and there is no place to go to get your money regardless of who you are, and even if you took it out in cash, you have worthless paper for the most part because it isn't based on any real asset. It is based on imagined wealth, not gold or anything else. I had this discussion with a friend who is a very conservative financial adviser, and he was very adamant about the fact that it was a bad idea that we had no choice but to make in terms of TARP. As for the auto industry, I agree that it was a "treat the symptoms, not the disease" effort, but sometimes that is the right thing to do.

Either way, we appear to be climbing out.

Are you black? My conservative buddies say the mortgage industry crashed because the govt made these altruistic banks lend money to black people. I doubt if they have corrected this law yet because Obama is part black, so if you are you may be in luck.

Don't believe all the liberal media spin about Goldman Sachs, etc. This is the cause of the problem.

On another note, I am looking forward those redneck, errrrrr, southern pride infested/secessionist states along the norther Gulf of Mexico to refuse any federal assistance to keep that oil spill offshore, or to clean up afterwards. The federal government that is on the road to communism is not the answer.

Just tune into Rush and he can enlighten you on these issues.
