Interesting question. Most doctors are in the private marketplace. Most teachers are not. Hmmmmmm...

If I'm right, most doctors will not really be in a private marketplace withing a few generations. At which time doctors and teachers compensation will likely be much closer (doctors making much less than in generations before).

Just out of curiousity. Did you see the movie "Waiting For Superman". The guy who made that movie was the furthest thing from conservative.

The whole tenure issue seems to be the main root cause of the mess.

The one time superintendent of Washington DC schools actually wanted to pay good teachers quite handsomely, she just wanted the freedom to fire the bad ones but she couldn't agree to get the Union to agree to those terms.

If what that movie saying is remotely true, then it is nearly impossible to fire bad teachers. Every year schools just do the dance of the lemons. In New York State they have these "rubber rooms" where suspended teachers sit and do nothing and get paid the same.

Good teachers make as much money as bad teachers. Mediocre teachers make the same.

Good teachers should get paid more, in fact they should be paid handsomely. Bad teachers should be fired.

That movie presented an appalling picture. I left it with the feeling that this country basically has a third world level education system.
