I thought Millar didn't get selected for team GB after being caught with his hand in the medicine draw. Is this wrong?

Millar isn't eligible to compete in the Olympics because of his doping, but that's a British Olympic Committee rule, nothing to do with British Cycling - so yeah, he's eligible for WCs.

San Sebastian is over and new points are rewarded. The czechs can add 60 points for Kreuziger bringing them to 321 points. France now got 301 points after Delage got 50 points and thus moving into the top fice French riders this season. Voeckler is out of the top five, and his 32 points can be removed. The French only gained 18 points after all. The Dutch got 285 points and the Swiss 253 points.

Norway still sits in the number 10 position (the last position to give 9 riders in the worlds), and there is only Tour De Pologne left that will count towards worlds.

I don't think there are any czechs there, and the only French rider I can imagine getting any good points is Chavanel. The Dutch riders involved doesn't look like they will collect much points either. Not many Swiss riders either, but Albasini might earn a few points, but I think he needs to end first in the classification to bring te Swiss into tenth place.

To defend the Norwegian colors is only Edvald Boasson Hagen, and as the Norwegians probably will ride for him in the worlds he got every chance of securing himself a big team by riding well in Poland :)

Aussie Team

I've been wondering what the Aussie team would look like - 9 riders allowed. What I would like to see is pure fantasy but: the likes of Evans, Rogers, Gerrans, Davis, etc pulling for and protecting Stuey O'Grady for the win ...

Wouldn't that be nice :)!

At Mendridio they'll all be pulling for Evans and at Melbourne they'll be pulling for McEwan or Haussler. Melbourne will be for a sprinter. That could cause for a boring race.

So if you exclude sprinters from this year's team, who would you have besides Evans, Rogers, Gerrans, O'Grady, Hansen ...?

Team Australia for 09 worlds
1.Evans
2.rogers
3.gerrans
4.O'Grady
5.Hansen
6.Lloyd
7.Lancaster
8.Sutton
9.???? Can't think of anybody

The amount of climbers that australia has proves that cadel can't go to an aussie pro team to have a go at the tour as we a full of sprinters.

So far the Tour de Pologne has brought no changes to the top ten, still looks like Norway will snatch the last giving 9 riders from countries such as The Netherlands and France.

They should really do something about the qualification system in my opinion.

melbourne wont be boring, dnt expect a normal break then chase then field sprint at the wc.

And with Boasson Hagen winning in Poland today, Norway has extended it's lead on the Dutch and the French.

9 pages and no one has mentioned Oscar Freire.

He may not have had the best of seasons so far but showed some form in the tough uphill finish of the Tour's Barcelona stage. More importantly he's proven to be able to stay at the front on a tough world's course and then come up with the sprint to take the win.

why not? spain will try to keep it together for friere, belgium for tom, britain for cav, germany for ciolek. Riders are going to struggle to get away as the hill is at the start of the course. It will be brought back together for a battle royale sprint. It's an uphill sprint so it should be intersting for friere.

The hill finishes 4K from the finish unless I'm reading it wrong (good chance) in which case a break could definitely survive.

I'm definitely liking Schlecklet's chances.. I was impressed with what I saw from him in the Ardennes Classics this year. Still a bit early to predict since we don't know who will go full out at the Vuelta, and who will hold back.

I think Chris Horner has a shot, he seems to like the climbs in Switzerland. he is good on short punchy ones especially and is good in a break.
He also is normally one of the better Americans at Worlds.
He knows how to read the race much better than the others from USA.
Plus he is more than a little mad at being left off the TDF squad
the last time he got left off the Olympic squad he showed pretty well at
Worlds.
If a break survives i thik Horner takes it.
:D

Belgium wont put all there eggs in the one basket (boonen to win)
I'd say they will want riders like devolder and (especially) gilbert to try and ride of the front... Spain too wont just have hopes for friere, and italy will not want a sprint finsih. Then tehre are others (like cancerella.. amybe even a couple of the russians) who will give it ago too.. and for sure the boys who enjoy the hills will still give it a go and could blow the race apart (even if the hill is at the start of the lap)
have you ever watched a WC? these races are unpredictable

I have watched many wc's but the melbourne course is a different course to many other world champs courses and i would know as i live in melbourne. Yes people could break away but i see many teams trying to bring it back together for a sprint.

err so do I...
And the laps are in geelong not melb, forsure teams will try and bring it back (although, I think most teams would rather yry and getter there sprinters in a lead group without cav...), but that doesn't mean it will happen. Like I said the WCs are unpredictable - irregardless of the course.

I am referring the WC's as Melbourne's as they have the naming rights to it not Geelong.

After this weeks Tour of Poland it's clear that Norway defends its top 10 position in the world ranking, and can send nine riders to the worlds.

The huge cycling-nation Norway can therefore send more riders than the smaller nations of France and the Netherlands. I love this ranking system.

It's fair enough. Those countries have not performed well enough over 2/3 to 3/4 of the season. they don't deserve those extra places.
