Biciclismo writes that Tondo was in the car and drove outside, but the garage door came down. He then stepped out of the car to press the "open" button for the garage-door. But then the car started rolling and Tondo was crushed between the car and the garage-door.
Intxausti was in the car in the passagers seat and whitnessed the whole thing, but couldn't do anything to prevent the accident from happening.

Must be traumatizing for Intxausti. I hope he gets a lot of help from his family and friends and doesn't develop any guilt feelings. Because that's how De Fauw ended his life, because of the guilt feelings from the crash with Galvez...

Just terrible

Thanks for relaying the explanation as morbid as this might be. Reading the brief descriptions, it was impossible for me to wrap my head around this.

Absolutely sucks :(

This month has been such a tragedy for the sport.

One of my favourite cyclists. He seemed like a great guy who was loved by everyone. Life is so unbelievably unfair...

I have to say though that it's quite mysterious that the guy who just recently revealed a spanish doping ring died in such a weird accident shortly after...

Wow, 2 huge losses to the cycling world this month:( Very sad news.

RIP Xavier, deepest condolences to your family at this terrible time.

Tondo was a cyclist easy to cheer for, and one who spent so much of his career fighting to get a spot on a top team. Like someone said earlier referring to De Pauw and Galvez, I hope Intxausti gets all the help he can get and recover from this, as he watch his friend die in front of him.

Also Sastre was the one who got him the spot with Cervelo as they were real close.

For his friends and families, they have my condolences. If Sastre decides to stay and finish the Giro, I hope he can put in a performance in honor of his friend.
