Will Valverde even bother? If he's talking the truth, his form will not be that good at this time of the year.

Navardauskas sprints on the flat, on the harder parcours, a strong attacker...

The route doesn't look too hard:

Guys like EBH, Navardauskas and Trentin should have a chance.

The descent of es Grau and Galilea could be pivotal. Both are really technical: narrow roads with tight, off-camber switchbacks. I don't think big riders like Valverde and Kwiat will take any risks so a small break might form of local riders who know the roads well and will risk a lot for what would be a really big result for them. I doubt the peloton will catch them if a breakaway has a minute or two by the time they get to Peguera.

Really far away. Any teams with enough riders will chase it down unless it's a break of like 10 or so riders and the field is really fractured. EBH for me.

Not sure they will - this isn't the Tour de France. The teams are generally pretty weak, undercooked and lacking in organisation at this stage of the season. The stage is really short as well, so riders in a break will still be going strong by the end.

Other reports say the gap is 1 min. No idea which is correct. Also, nobody on twitter seems to know what teams are pulling in the peloton, but somebody must be working.

33 seconds lead with 40km to go. The big break is doomed. Hopefully a smaller group will attack from it before it is caught.

Cofidis tweet by way of google translate: #ChallengeMallorca KM121 - Last Pass Summit ended breakaway, the peloton no longer has a fifty riders.

Can't tell what's happening from conflicting tweets, but there may be a lead group of 20 with 40 seconds. Or there may not be.

#ChallengeMallorca info a bit sketchy but sounds like a group of 30 are now 50" ahead of rest of peloton with 20km to go.

Brambilla seul en tête avec 20" sur G. Izagirre, Nordhaug, Trentin, Stuyven, Benoot et Sieberg.

I think with around 14km to go Brambilla is off the front, with about 30 seconds. Navardauskas and Sieberg probably the most dangerous in the chasing group.

edit.. Brambilla 38 seconds clear with 5k to go. Looks like the chasers aren't working well together.
