It usually depends on the race. The wins I enjoyed the most aren't from guys I'm particularly attached to. In the last few months I've really dug watching Hayman somehow outsprint history at Roubaix; Brambi adding his signature to the ledger at Formigal after laying down the first strokes on that masterpiece; Pantano and Atapuma and Colbrelli just out-and-out crack after those first big wins; Thomas (assisted by a brilliant Henao) overextend himself up and down the outskirts of the principality and his potential to stave off Contador by a whisker; and Quintana tear up and then seal up the Vuelta after all the inane screeching surrounding his Tour podium.
But sure, there are some guys who I find myself pulling for race after race. I can tally up Uran, Sagan, Gaviria, Kwiato, Gallopin, Betancur, Pinot, Dombrowski, Tony Martin and Gesink among them. Had no particular reason for most of them, and that added up to ten serendipitously. Attacking flair and a certain joie de vivre both on and off the bike, maybe? Or a general sense that no one on that list has wholly made good on their talents, yet they keep at it with unwavering passion?
