He got banned permanently?

Yes, he came back with a sockpuppet which is ground for an immediate permanent ban. To discuss this further go to the about the forum subsection and post in that thread. We really don't need this discussion everywhere

End of career for Ivan Melero Coco (Team Type 1)

Team Type 1 announced yesterday via a press release that their rider Ivan Melero Coco (ESP) will have to end his career, due to cardiac problems.

The doctor of the team, Massimiliano Montavani, detected a very rare cardiac injury, where the aorta dialates dangerously. "The consequences of such an injury for a performance athlete are severe. He will still be able to ride his bike, but not competitively."

"The good news for Ivan is that he will still be able to lead a normal life as an amateur racer, but the sad reality is that he will not be able to race professionally anymore."

His general manager Phil Sutherland wishes him all the best: "At the moment he is doing well and in the name of the whole team we wish him all the best for the future"

We write for Ivan Melero Coco the 9/04/2011 as the day he officially retired (/DAOTEC mode off)

I wonder whether this might be a similar condition as Kim Kirchen's?

Losing Melero to TT1 was a blow for Burgos Monumental, but I guess they couldn't have got much more out of him with that problem. Looks like 3rd in the Vuelta a Madrid last year is his career highlight forevermore.

Not been a good few months for Burgos Monumental, what with Antuña retiring - a shame as he had been promising, good results in Asturias last year and 2nd in the Subida al Naranco - Santamarta losing a finger in the crash at the FBD Insurance Ras, and Gregory Brenes, probably their most exciting young talent (and 10th in the Vuelta a Asturias) deserting for Movistar CT (presumably stepping up to Movistar PT in the next couple of years)...

Christophe Laurent hangs up the bike for good. In a rather long and detailed press release he explains that he lacks motivation for pretty much everything having to do with professional cycling. It's too long to translate but if you speak French here it is:

His last professional teams were Agritubel, Slipstream and Crédit Agricole, before he went back to the amateurs in 2010.

Some noteworthy performances:

2002 KOTM Tour de l'Avenir
2007 KOTM Tour of California
2009 Stage win at Rhône-Alpes Isère
