El Pistolero said:I guess Armstrong is better as well now than Contador. He totally beat him in 2005.
Sense, you don't make it.
Ps: I wouldn't be so sure anymore of Valverde having a better palmares for much longer![]()
c&cfan said:contador was beaten just in 2005. he was very young, his first tour. he was a nobody. gilbert? beaten since he was pro. totally different. again you just showed how delusional and "obtuse" you are.
better palmares you say? well.. it depends. why's that?because your delusional fanboyism makes you rate anything that gilbert wins as much better races.

Warning: this footage is shocking and may make you cry
The mistake you make is thinking Gilbert hasn't improved since 2008. You fail to understand that thus you can't be argued with.
woodenswan said:i was stupid enough to watch those things. two really painful moments this season. (cant root for Phil and his bloody earring)
still, there's no denying the fact that he improved immensely
hrotha said:Valverde never dominated the way Gilbert did the past year and a half. In fact, he rarely dominated at all.

The Hitch said:No, but he focused on several different disciplines and with tremendous success in almost all of them. Unlike Phil who only focuses on 1.
And even though he only won 1 overall, that period where he came 2nd in 2 major stage races and won the 3rd while podiuming Liege too, was pretty impressive for someone who had hoped to be on top form in July.
I think in Basque country he podiumed 5 out of the 6 stages, which included sprint stages, hilly, mountinous ones and a time trial.
Which is as dominant as one can get in a race without winning it.
5th... you call that "well down"? He could have gotten 2nd if he didn't have to brake in the sprint.greenedge said:I want a challenger to beat Gilbert. And Gilbert has little form ( WC and P-T ) unless if he is peaking for this race. In that Italian race yesterday Mollema finished well down after that effort for sprinting for 2nd the day before.
I think Cancellara if he survives could be a threat. If Zaugg gets in a break i envisage him being able to stay away maybe. Scarponi has not raced much as of late so i am not sure how well he shall be.

To the first bolded bit, well, we're talking about challenging Gilbert in that particular discipline. Everybody knows Valverde is more versatile, a better climber, a faster sprinter and a better GT guy, but that's not what the discussion was about. The Hitch said:No, but he focused on several different disciplines and with tremendous success in almost all of them.
