My impression was that they wanted him to become a contender in shorter stage races.

At this point he must be aiming to win all ten of the biggest races - GTs, monuments, Worlds, Olympics. He will adapt his schedule based on what he hasn't won yet.

Yeah he once rode the Giro for GC and finished in the top15 if I'm not mistaken.

FDJ probably wanted his potential to win Alpes Martimes in February, not podium RVV. Hopefully now they focus him on the classics.
