Nah. I said he WOULD drop Cancellara on the Muur but would fail on the flat.

Isnt that what happened:p

That wasn't sarcasm. Some guys, not you, were saying Cancellara and Boonen are better on these climbs.

Based on his performance at the Scheldeprijs I think it's pretty clear that Cavendish is now the main favourite for Paris-Roubaix.

That and the way his big talk means it's clear he thinks he is the favourite despite not winning RVV

Fair play to him, if it's arrogance then he will get found out and if he is right then it will be very interesting to see where he goes from. I think no sleeping by Tommeke this year and recent events so he goes later...

The only person who would be able to hold off the group behind in that situation would be Cancellara.

But yeah, more than two or three flat km's after a descent is the most Gilbert can really stay away a lot of the time.

Whoever said that might very well be right, at least about Cancellara. The fact that Gilbert does a faster ascent after Cancellara has been in an (effectively) solo breakaway for a long time and is getting cramps proves little about Gilbert being better.

Not going to read through all 24 pages. Does anyone in the US know the situation viewing wise? Versus? Universal? Or will I just be watching an online stream somewhere.

Are you sure you're talking about Cavendish and not Cancellara as Cav has only said he's happy to be riding PR after asking for the last 4 years to be allowed to ride it and nothing else

I was talking about Cav as a joke, I think winterfold mis-read and assumed I said Cancellara.

If Boonen/Cancellara/Flecha/Hushovd waste energy again going for the hero move..

Then Matt Goss for the win.

lol no. This will never happen at PR, never. Group sprints never decide the winner. If Boonen and Co fail, no doubt a Leukemans and co will succeed.

PR fields are also decimated, you have to be strong throughout the race, not the last 200m. Frankly Goss has displayed nothing to convince me that he can handle the cobbles to be near the front.

back to the weather... it is unexpectedly hot here (Belgium/Gent) no matter what they say and Sunday is supposed to be the hottest day of the week (with no rain forecast between now and then).

i expect to see dust clouds from here :D

I think the race will have the usual suspects duking it out..Boonen and Canc being the favorites...followed closely by Thor and others. I think Boonen is going to win...

But I also think Tom Veelers will surprise and crack the top 5...in 5th place. He had a very good ride last year, and is showing good form..and Roubaix is his battle ground.

I'm just saying I think Goss is strong enough to be up there, and he is built for Roubaix. Also if it is hot weather, this may suit him. So that's why he's my wild card for the win.

My preference would be for a Boonen win but I think Cancellara will go later than he did at Flanders. A lot depends on the wind conditions on the day though.

Last year when Cancellara went there was a lot of negative riding against Boonen, worst of all by the woeful Cervelos (why didn't Hushovd put Hammond on the front of that group?)

I think this year and especially after Flanders, guys know if they collaborate Cancellara can be neutralised unless he is on a super day (cough Dr Ferrari cough cough).

Whichever way it goes I would be surprised to see a solo rider entering the velodrome this year

Why would you be surprised to see a rider winning solo? We had a solo in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010, it's quite common in Roubaix.

You don't follow cycling much do you? He came 112th in RVV and 149th in G-W :D

Whats with the personal attacks there fella...I watch plenty of cycling. Final results don't mean much depending on how much a rider was working for the team...and Tom has never been good in the hills...I recall he spent the day in a break earlier (E3 Prijs maybe?) And last year he was 13th in PR if I'm not mistaken...so sure I think he has a chance.
