Right, so much weaker than some of the other end-of-season lineups won by luminaries such as Oliver Zaugg and Bauke Mollema. Lombardia is always fairly thin.
Even so, the field is probably thinner than any of those editions and then the main favourite crashes out too.

You have to remember, when he came up, all the big teams were "all for one". There was no "multiple captains" and no "wolf pack riding".

First Sastre, then the Schlecks, then Nibali, Fuglsang was almost always a domestique in service of a dominating captain - a very good domestique - but still just a domestique.
Of course, but he never looked like he could pull off this sort of stuff when he was a dom. Just him not being the leader is not an explanation for me

Maybe if he'd just figured out years ago that he was more suited to the hillier one-days.
