Well, that was fun! :D

Why were they in such a hurry?

Well played, sir.
Sir?

Well played? Okay, sure. The sir part is also factually incorrect, and not just because I'm not a knight.

I missed Cancellara there today. Very boring edition. Stybar failed very bad after all how things was set up.

What race were you watching?

I mean - did GvA contributed when Oss was in front? (with all the respect for his own effort to get back before) As far as I remember he did only when he faced attacks from other leaders. Yet that was the part, when Styby was for the long kms the only one to left for his own leader. And he worked hard.

Indeed he countered attacks while he didn't have to. Quick Step gave Styby weird team orders. Styby had as many chance to outsprint Greg than Boonen to outsprint Degenkolb if not more. Fortuantely, everything ended the way it should.

Yep.
GVA deserved it. And Quick Step need a good kick up the beejesus for the negative tactics they've been employing. Boonen was out of it, Stybar had no good reason not to tap through.

The race was mostly good but I think it was missing that one killer acceleration on a cobbled section that we've seen from the likes of Cancellara in the past. I thought Sagan was going to produce that moment for us this time but for whatever reason we never got it.

Boonen said there was headwind on the main cobbled sectors so it was very hard to ride away on them.

That was a sour thing to say...

He does have a point. Racing is no beauty contest, but Degenkolb's negativity did himself no favors. Seemed a bit gutless.

Yeah, but from what I saw not completely without basis.

Shame cause that's always my favourite bit of the race where someone motors off the front while the commentators get hyped. This time it was more down to attrition as the pace was kept high (but not super high) and riders slowly dropped of the back.

Degenkolb had Stuyven in the front.

Which is often how Quickstep have raced in the past. They put someone up front who is good but probably won't win and then shadow anyone in the 2nd group. :p

Not that they always do that, obviously flanders was super stuff but I've seen them use that tactic before.

Yeah so I don't know what Boonen is crying about. Sounds like some sour grapes.

Boonen said Degenkolb rode the most cowardly race of his entire life.

Indeed he did, what an obnoxious rider he is. Glad he didn't win.

To be fair, if Boonen didn't want to be shadowed the whole race, perhaps he shouldn't have made such a song and a dance about the fact that he was retiring immediately afterwards and would be building his entire training for the season around winning the race. Sure, he got lots of attention for it, and loads of eulogies - but it probably didn't optimize his chances of going under the radar a bit and winning. It also meant that Stybar's attack took not pressure off him, because everyone knew he was the outright leader. Ultimately, he ended up being even more heavily marked than Sagan.
