As a roadie it makes me sick the amount of cycling funding that goes into track in New Zealand. Bike NZ do virtually nothing to promote grass roots club racing in NZ but throw money around like jellybeans when it comes to track cycling. I realise that government funding is allocated with regards to medal success and that track has a far higher potential medal haul than road but it is a sad state when the national U19 road team team have to individually fund not only their own trip fares to international events but also pay for the Bike NZ entourage as well.

watching the track cycling at the games has been a joke. Take the mens team pursuit...Aussie qualified at 4minutes, NZ at 4.03 and in bronze medal position, Northern Ireland at 4.23! Despite that they still lapped India after 2km in the bronze ride off, all to the rapturous applause of the two spectators present (if you take out riders families). With a few exceptions the whole track programme has been an Aussie vs New Zealand benefit with Australia handing us our *** on a plate in every race. Great to see all that funding bearing dividends:rolleyes:

What grates me is that they are still pumping a great proportion of the funding into the track endurance programme despite the events largely having been dropped from Olympic competition. If they're that committed to track IMO they should be concentrating a lot more on the sprint programmes a couple of years out from London!!

I guess track cycling doesn't cut it with the general public. I'm watching Sky News this morning when they announce that Australia has won 4 golds in the cycling overnight. And what are they showing as they announce this? Swimming.....heats!!
Yeah, swimming in past games gets way too much but ONE have given all sports a lot of coverage which is good. Actually, cycling has had the most!:D In other games the networks get it completely wrong which is why I am not looking forward to Channel Nine taking over the olympic coverage as they will be not be any different than Seven. The Comm games coverage in 2006 was quite average especially for Ch 9 standards.

Yes but they'll choke at the World Cup.

I thought the Dragons and Pies would choke too , i think karma is biting me on the Gluteus Maximus this year for all the stirring of Dragons fans.
Might be the Kiwis year next year.

They would of gone much faster if they hadn't had to go around the slow kiwis in the last lap which split the team up.

Not in 2012 they will :p

"There's no chance the Australians will be beating us in our velodrome. Not a chance."

British Cycling saw these CW games only as an opportunity to blood a new batch of riders at a leading multi-sport event.

The average age of [the English] team is 19, they're in their first year as U23 riders."

"So the aim was for them to gain experience at a major championship and perhaps claim some success.

"And there have been some great performances: George Atkins (19) won a silver in the points race

Britain's problem is cyclists do separate in the Commonwealth games into five, including the Isle of Man, home nations teams at the Commonwealths, whereas the Australians stay together.

So your just saying they will beat us because their coach said they would beat Australia? That's Mexican logic.

Of the Aussies that have won gold: Cameron Meyer is top quality - but he's rumoured to be joining Sky, so they'll deliberately ruin him (they won't really). Anna Meares is Anna Meares - good but not as good as Vicky P. Bobridge can do a good IP, but that's not an Olympic event any more. The rest: meh.

Who's still in the road race, or is that just going to be Cav v Dean?

'NO' is not, just you Aussies have been circling around in some Ben and Jerry's candy store at Dehli, and that won't be the case at Piccadilly Circus comprende.

Saying there is "no chance" we will beat them is arrogant and naive. We'll see in london then!

Cameron Meyer's gold medal in the scratch race. TOTAL DOMINATION

Yeah he was good but I have to say its not hard for a quality rider like him to dominate in what was a pretty weak field. Mind you track racing is pretty weak anyway. I would love to see Cancellara do an IP, he would just dominate. Most of the top trackies are just kids really and track racing is such a minor sport in a lot of european countries. There are probably 20+ pro tour riders who would easily account for Meyer in a scratch race. Still you can only race against who turns up.

Thank God for Allie Shanks, we've finally won a gold on the track. best of all the Aussies got shut out!:D

Probably should have had her in the mens TP, she could have rode the leadout, she probably would have lasted longer than Bewley did!

is track racing at the CWG an u/23 event - i've never seen it written down, but they all seem to be young?

There isn't actually an U23 classification on the track. They consider the U23s and elites just as elites.

Not, its just that all the best Aussies are young (think Meyer/Bobridge who are their 2 best men), and almost NONE of the Team GB senior trackies went (apart from Wendy), instead the 5 home "nations" choosing to send a load of 18/19 year olds to blood hem now so we have backup for 2012

I don't think Cav is quite the shoe-in everyone thinks for this as just like David Miller for Scotland they're up against pro tour teams in England, NZ & Australia where as he's riding with a team of weekend wariors. You never know we might see more of a Robbie Mcewen type ride.

Cav winning all depends on how his team do it.

Australia are going to break the race up as they know no one can beat Cav in a sprint in this field.

It's either going to be Cav or an Australian rider win this.
