Bling did a great lead out for CJ.
Agreed. If you are a decent sprinter you can hit the front at 300m to go and still win easily on that course.

One thing I did notice is that was Jens Mouris was riding a Scott during the race. Already got his bike for next year.

It was black, not full GreenEDGE paintjob iirc, I'll see if I get a pic of him today at Cronulla

Gotta say, Caleb Ewan coming 3rd today was pretty impressive. The kid is only 16 and came a close 3rd to Matthews and Sutton today.

I know Caleb and he is a great kid. Super commited and an unbelievably powerful bike rider. He'll go pro for sure and he is only second year U19

I went to Cronulla to watch it yesterday. Good vibe/fun Morton and Phelan were very frisky. Matthews got himself in a break and never once went to the front ( after having done work for Brown/ also leading him out ) for some stupid reason.

And i took a photo with the CN forums greatest hero ( Aussie ones who have to succumb to his power to get their fill of Australian cycling in depth and overseas )

Why is Matthews doing leadouts for Brown? They still haven't figured out that Matthews is faster and more versatile?

Brown popped big time in that sprint. Ultimately that's what gave the big enough gap to Matthews.

btw, I am still not quite sure about CH 9's coverage of the TDU considering their coverage of the NSW GP during the past two days. It was shocking. Voss struggled to name 5 riders and seriously didn't have a clue.

But, to be fair to them, they did live coverage of what is an extremely minor event..

And also, a lot of domestic riders there, i couldnt name most of them. ;)

I think that Wollongong would have had a bigger crowd, except for the weather and the fact that to get to Wollongong you had to do a train-bus-train journey. I got there for the masters race and there were more officials than spectators.

Weather was a factor. when i was planning to leave sydney it was absolutely chucking it down so did not bother heading down.

Give them a bit of time and it's bound to be better.
I haven't watch the whole lot yet, only the online feed (of the final 10mins) and I thought it was ok. Voss was most likely doing his first bike race and for a guy who mainly does football commentating he didn't do to bad.
Helps to have some experts along side of course with Gilmore and Voegels.

It was a good day out at both races. Some great racing.
It was lucky at Wollongong to have the weeks rain finally blow over just in time. The road was still a little damp in my race (masters series) but nothing that slowed it down much at all (if any).
Some very fast guys in there.

For a comparison in Wollongong (660m course) the Masters race was lapping
at 55-56secs.
The Elites I timed them ranging from 51 to 55secs per lap.

At Cronulla (1.34km course)
In the masters we were doing 1:55mins to 2:00mins per lap
The Men's Elites I timed them ranging from 1:48 to 1:55

I got dropped halfway through each race (in masters) so I'm assuming the lap times will have stayed reasonably constant.
I didn't get any women's lap times, so I don't know what they were doing.

There's a whole heap of photo's at Sillphotoraphy

Not really much then.
If he studies up prior to the TDU and has some experts along side he'll do ok.
Plus he has more time at the TDU since it won't be like a 50-60min crit with countless attacks etc.

He does ok for someone who does a couple of hours commentary once a year.

Do not think he will be commentating the TDU in general probably just doing the occasional link at best.

Did not watch on Tv but did stand opposite him in Cronulla towards the end and cannot knock his enthusiasm. he seemed genuinely excited by the whole thing

I was in the CH 9 coverage. No pointers though. And it might be bd for the TDU but i will pick out exciting stages to go view personally and then watch the last 30 min of others that are boring.

It was a nice day in Cronulla though. Nice to hear to that Voss was a good commentator as well.
