Even FoxFapSports get its wrong sometimes. Apparently they stopped the ManUtd match last night at the end of 90 minutes...so they could show sumo wrestling. :D

Just thought I would give this thread a bump. All Aus nats talk and Jayco bay Series talk can be in this thread.:)

http://www.theage.com.au/sport/cycling/building-young-talent-on-mcewens-mind-20111212-1orek.html

NO ONE will critique the debut of GreenEDGE more closely than Robbie McEwen, who will compete at the event while simultaneously - and perhaps more importantly - coaching a quartet of younger teammates.

Matt Goss and Leigh Howard stand to receive tips aplenty from the veteran Tour de France green jersey winner who, in his swansong season, will share the honour of being part of the historic event when the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic begins on January 1.

McEwen, who will have assumed a permanent coaching position with GreenEDGE before the Tour de France, views every competitive outing before then as an important opportunity for the sprinters on the new professional team.

"We're trying as quickly as possible, now that we're teammates, to get a combination happening. And trying to get it wired as soon as we can in the lead-up to the bigger races in the season," McEwen, a six-time champion of the annual criterium series, said yesterday.

"We're going to be trying some different things, looking at a few different tactics …and we'll maybe make some mistakes because we haven't ridden together yet but it's a good testing ground for us under race pressure."

Mitch Docker and Wesley Sulzberger, both 25, are the two other young cyclists who have been selected by GreenEDGE coaches from the team's 30-strong male roster for the debut race. They will play support to the sprinters.

More seasoned Australian GreenEDGE riders, Baden Cooke and Allan Davis, will also contest the four-day event around the Bellarine Peninsula but on another team.

"It is critical that we involve Robbie with guys like Matt Goss and Leigh Howard as much as we possibly can in race circumstances for them to gain the experience from it," GreenEDGE boss Shayne Bannan said, adding that 22-year-old Howard would be teamed with McEwen as regularly as possible before the veteran retires.

"In discussions with Leigh, prior to him signing the contract to join GreenEDGE, he saw Robbie as a really good motivation to come on board because of the amount he can learn from him.

"Robbie will be having a really good look at Leigh and so he'll be able to say 'what you did then was great, but you can improve on these areas'.

''He can give him the instant feedback on all that type of stuff that's not written in the textbook."

Goss enjoyed a breakout season on the professional circuit this year, winning the one-day Milan-San Remo race and silver at the road world championships, before leaving HTC-HighRoad, now disbanded, and joining GreenEDGE.

A win at the Bay criterium series kick-started proceedings for the 25-year-old who is focusing on the Tour de France and Olympic road race next year, as well as defending the crowns he holds.

"Robbie's quite a punchy sprinter where I'm probably a bit more a stronger sprinter, and it's going to be interesting, it's going to be fun," Goss said yesterday before returning to his native Tasmania to replicate the pre-season training block that served him so well this year. "If we can work together, I think we're going to be able to pull some great results."

Stop taking over TSF! ;)

lol.. i did those maps about a month ago in a year of complete and utter boredom.. not the hardest routes to plot.. did the tour down under gps maps as well (because the ones on the official site are wrong/dont include closing maps), but the post is lost in the midst of time back on about page 2 (on the plus side, im about the only cycling fansite/video site that bothers with the bay crits) ;)

I lke the bay crits. decent racing, video highlights each day and then a roundup on cycling central.

Shame Sky only got CJ there this year, but will be interesting to see the two greenedge teams fight it out.

Sorry, not sure where to ask this question but wanted the attention of the Aussies so i thought that here would do...

I live in Cairns and was driving into town and on the other side of the highway was a rider in full Lotto kit with a person on a scooter pacing them. Any idea who it might be?
To link it to this thread, i'm sure they must be training for the Aussie Summer of Cycling

Thanks

Ok, I think that I have been able to answer my own question - it would be Adam Hasen. He is riding in TDU for Lotto and according to his 'about me' on adamhansen.com he spent most of his life in Cairns.

Hepburn, Durbridge, Bobridge, Porte, Rogers & Meyer all contenders for ITT. Nearly all the top riders. Because this is a flat course with long straights I'd have to tip Durbridge ftw.

Well that's what the reports were saying beforehand, now they're saying GE will have 15 riders in the Nats, when it should only be 13. I realise it's all semantics but you don't call Haas from Genesys now, even though it's likely the Orange men will be racing for him/his team-mate
