Being a former great doesn't keep you from going senile or failing to understand cycling has changed since your times.

I never said that, but I'm pretty sure the majority of people who watch Eurosport uk would agree that Kelly's analysis is very insightful..Anyway each to their own!

I propose a dress code for the pit lane staff.

(I'm going for Oscar Friere, £10 @ 21/1 and £10 for a place, just to be sure :) )

I just got up and I was quite excited when I saw that breakaway, then cut to the peloton with Britain already controlling the pace as if they were HTC. This will be heartbreaking. I predict cycling will lose many a fan today.

Lol. If I could draw a Venn diagram of cycling fans who -

1. Will watch today.
2. Dispair of sprinting.
3. Are close to stopping watching due to having an only casual interest level.

I would happily wage the area covered by all 3 zones would be very very very small.

Look at Libby - constantly whining about sprints, more or less certain to watch & whine today, but precisely because of that, very unlikely to be the sort of person permanently turned off cycling.

Lastras seems to be at the back of the break a lot, not contributing much.
Bad tactic, IMO. Spain should be trying to make the race just hard enough for a somewhat reduced sprint.

(Which in this course probably means 100 guys, being very optimistic)

I agree with you, sean kelly seems to get things right most of the time, certainly far more than his co comentators... he doesn't talk so much though and I think a lot of the time he is doing other things aswell :S

World championship race is anything but, any monument is millennia ahead of this crap. A UCI money making event that is hardly promoting the exciting racing cycling can produce.

Why are GB already chasing? Too early imo. Save the legs for the final 80km where they will need to be strong to keep it together.

Kelly is generally very good at reading a race in my opinion.Certainly far better than any of the nerds on this forum.

you ever listened to english eurosport? then you know kelly hasn't got a single clue what he's talking about

I think Kelly knows what he's talking about he's just not a good communicator, and sitting next to Harmon isn't exactly the best platform either. A lot of times you get the feeling he is agreeing or not saying anything just because it's easier that way.

It looks like a B equipment from the football national team. Any historical reason for Spain to use the "blue"?

erm... won the World Cup final in blue?

they shouldn't let the gap become too big on an easy course like that + the Germans are helping as well so no biggie

Kelly's OK, He doesn't go on and on and get on one's nerves for me. I can cope with his analysis usually.

I have Porter and Boardman and they're doing a good job so far considering nothing much is happening.

if they leave things a bit later then there chasing of any attacks and of the break will be killing two birds with one stone. Chasing now means they will be working now to get the break and working later to chase attacks down.

I thought this. Have one or two up at the front sure, but the whole team are there (though Froome doing the vast majority of the work) Seem to be doing a good job though at the moment

Completely, should look like that at 40k to go. Many other nations that want to keep control of it.
