I just got up and I was quite excited when I saw that breakaway, then cut to the peloton with Britain already controlling the pace as if they were HTC. This will be heartbreaking. I predict cycling will lose many a fan today.

My only surprise is that some folks around here are surprised.
It's about expectations, rather than wishes.

Trade team and national interests in perfect harmony.

It's 99% sure it will be a bunchsprint. Only Gilbert and Cancellara can change that. Let's hope 1 of them will.

the norwegian commentators were talking to Sean Kelly this morning, and he was certain it will not be a bunch sprint today. I suppose he knows what he's talking about, but on the other hand it wouldn't be the first time a former great was mistaken.

Good thing we know the only sport with doping is cycling, eh? Those Africans all run on clean air, mineral water, the love of Jesus and altitude training.

Heh. Every topsport has doping.

Being a former great doesn't keep you from going senile or failing to understand cycling has changed since your times.

General comments:

You expect a large tricky bunch sprint, but portions of the course are somewhat technical, with somewhat narrow barricades that tend to string out bunches.

Can't say I like much about the course - 18 minutes laps so far...but it may favor the survival of small bunches and individuals, which makes me think that Cancellara will take a shot on the last lap (or maybe even before?).

Having watched the finish of all of the previous races, the finish is really unusually tricky for sprinters, and likely actually suits Gilbert quite well, as well as the noted Phinney/Farrar combo.
