Because this is a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, not a sprinter's championship. A world champion cannot have the crippling limitations a pure sprinter like Cav has. It was a pleasure to see Evans and Hushovd displaying what a world champion can do, riding strong in all terrains. A world champion must be able to do that. Cav, on the other hand, won't honor the sacred jersey.

Excellent. What this board needs is more July joiner n00b haters.

A WC race should not be a 90 man group sprint, imho, so I say '********' to this.

Having said that, big repsect for the way the Brits worked their a s s e s off so the best sprinter of recent times could finish it off.

Also big respect to Lars Boom for being in the mix at the end!

This. Well spoken!

Griepel as usual came like a train but from miles back.

Yes the course left lots to be desired, but you can't blame Cavendish for that. In the end, the whole GB team rode superbly, and he finished it off brilliantly - can't argue with that.

most succesfull world championship ever..

with out a doubt...

newer have been so many spectators (just today at the round about course true data 250.000 spec.) and most functionel championship..

and the race was what could be expected from this course..;)

check responses from worlds commentators about this championship..;)
Rubbish. Worst WC race in decades. I'd prefer a good race without a single spectator to this crap. Women's race was probably the most boring in the history of cycling. Check responses from the world's cycling fans.

cancellara sprinted well, but really should have gone earlier. quite likely they woulda caught him, but what's the point of taking the sprinters on their home turf? prolly lacked legs, or confidence.

E: at least phil did not win. he'll get his in a year anyway.

one of the worst courses in a while and one of the worst possible winners to have: irrelevant results.:(

That was like a flat tour stage.

I don't think the world championships should be contested by 70 riders approaching the line. Too easy.

You may not like Cav as a rider or want the WC to end in a sprint but you cannot deny that GB/Cav earned that.
Everyone else was trying to stop them, no leadout train at the end, no Renshaw, a tricky up hill sprint and they still did it.

"I love it when a plan comes together."

Next year let's have a mountain top finish.

I guess AUS did the right thing leaving Renshaw out considering how the race panned out

Haha. Yeah. Much too tough for Renshaw!? Could very well have been the difference for Goss there. Haussler did well, but isn't a natural lead out man. He kept the pace high, but didn't give Goss a wheel to follow.

Also shown to be pure politics, Australia didn't try to make a move, apart from the sprint the whole race. Clarke was there to make Britain chase.

HTC 1, 2 and last year, 3 (Greipel)...breeding ground for sprinters!!?

That was awesome. GB rode fantastic and Cav finished it with a proper sprint.

The race happened as you could expect. Very deserved win by Cav, the British team did an absolutely fantastic race, they were the only ones who earned the gold here. .
