I think he mostly hears the criticism that he always pulls on the front, and never just sits in and profits from others. So this refreshing

VDB and Gesink were going totally Leipheimer on that poor Frenchie.

Jeremy Roy tweet about the cows:
Grosse Frayeur! Un troupeau de vaches affolées par l'hélico de FTV a traversé le peloton en pleine descente. Freinage d'urgence bestial.

and the great translation :D
Big Fright! A herd of cows maddened by FTV helicopter crossed the peloton in full descent. Emergency brake bestial.

If your boy Wiggans is top ten at the tour I will buy you a nice steak dinner (from Spain).

i can't wait for a brit top ten at the tour to eat steak!
having missed the entire race due to my own ride, i'm going to treat myself to a steak dinner tonight. great idea! (let's face it, if it comes with slimming help that improves the whole experience.

If they really want to isolate Wiggo they might, but I doubt anyone wants to overdo the Dauphiné to screw up their tour prep. Only maybe JRod, but hes down 2,5 / 3 minutes..

One issue for Sky may be the fairly epic fail from Uran - brought in to be the main domestique for the mountain, first chance to test this and see how he could do, and EBH shells him!

Depends. Could well be that Rigo is a month from top form. Timing his form for the Tour de France. Hes also been ill.

insane final climb, finally cycling like in the good old days, attacks over attacks all the way.i thought for a few moments that i'm watching le tour.
i got to say hagen was like a freaking beast out there, murdering everybody, what an amazing show of power!sky looks like a really good professional team finally.

purito a well deserved win,too bad that he didn't put at least a minute to the second rider arrived.definitely tomorrow he will win again,he's above all,the others will peak in le tour.

vino, showing why people love him, attacking even that's a climb not suited to him,he's looking like the best vino we've seen on the climbs ever.

gesink and van den broeck are pretty at the same level, they will get a top ten in le tour once again.
cadel i still think he's following a better program and it's better to not screw it in dauphine.
wiggins,i told you he's at 2009 level and he can be in le tour even better, just look at those veins popping out of the body, that's always a good sign, also cool, calm and collective like sherwen used to say.

i gotta say that for me kern was the man of the day.it will be interesting to know his watts/kg on today's climb.flashes of a bjarne riis with those shoulders and the face of pain.i timed the climb in 32 minutes at an average speed of 21 km/h.they approached and rode it in tour de france's style.

tomorrow once again a showdown.i think purito will win again.wiggins will have no problems.
fine day of cycling today.

What a disapointing stage. Not only did Samu, one of the biggest names in cycling fall back, there were absolutely no camera shots of him, nor was it mentioned by the commentators, not by anyone on the forum.

Seems like a lot of people are underestimating the Asturian, once again.

His performance was poor but he wasnt exactly setting the world on fire at this race last year either.

Well done to Gesink and Wiggins.

We all knew about Quim Rods awesomness though. Hoping for a overall there at Vuelta for him.

Why would they waste time on Samu when the action is up front? Besides I saw him hanging in the back very early on the climb.

presumably by winning the D-L, which would put GBR in 8th (ignoring the Tour de Suisse) - and in a *very* good position to guarntee a top 10 spot to qualify for 9 riders (well, as long as other riders can at least score 1 point)

The bit in brackets is key. The second pair of brackets that is. 6 riders for GBR unless something amazing happens.

exactly, therein lies the problem.

Wiggins, Millar, Thomas, Cavendish, Swift

Basically GB need four of Downing, Froome, Stannard, hammond, blythe and Hunt to score points between now and the end of next month.

Only chance for that realistically is Froome in the Tour de Suisse, or take Stannard to the TDF and hope he can win one of the up and down stages.

Finally!

A hard earned win for Purito. They should let him ride the Tour. This all-Russian team bull$hit is bull$hit.

I can see Dowsett/Blythe perhaps getting into the top 5 in a TT/sprint at Poland or Eneco. (The others you mention could get into a break at Eneco - but that's a long shot).

Purito is doing well because he's just done the Giro, while everyone else is riding with one eye set on the Tour. If he were going to ride it himself things would be different - he either wouldn't be riding the Dauphiné, or he wouldn't be enjoying this Giro form.

Dowsett is riding Skyride Ipswich tomorrow, so am I. I'll try to sidle up to him and suggest this! :D

Yeah if he had planned to ride the Tour, his programme would have been different. Nevertheless it would be worth taking him, particularly with all the punchy finishes. Do you think Katusha are sending the best team they can?
