Sometimes when I'm riding by myself I like to imagine I'm a solo breakaway holding off the marauding HTC chase they always catch me 10k before home.

Youre not the only one ;)

It could be because all the favourites want to be at the front so the crashes happen near the front where the favourites are.

Dunno man, the favourites always try to be at the front with less crashes then this. They are perhaps nervous and possibly less confident with their riding.

The Barb - honestly - really. :confused::confused:

Do you think it is a coincidence why HTC let the break go and now they are pacing the front already ?

The first 40km are the easiest of the entire race too!

Again, they're the only team that can put on a train like that. Renshaw is faster than Rojas on a flat thing like this.

I think it's rather pathetic that the rules favor the strongest team. And even then he struggles to win the green jersey.

I disagree.

A team has an option of building itself one way or another.
HTC build the team mainly around this sort of thing.

However they lose ground in other areas.

A strong team in a particular area by all means has the right to benefit in that area.

How do the Rules favour the strongest team any more than previously?

Having the intermediates worth so many more points, means Cavendish will need to be there during intermediate in the tough stages, or risk losing loads of points. The fact Gilbert is in green so early in the tour (it's always a sprinter at this stage) shows that, AND the course chosen by the organisers (not many sprint stages) has changed the game.

HTC might want to catch the break early to avoid a high pace on the small hills towards the finish. Could open up for new attacks.

Look, at the start of today Cav was behind Gilbert (64points?) & Rojas for Green so in what way did it suit him to have points taken away from him by the breakaway considering he went for (and won) the intermediate sprint ?_?

The changes to the green jersey favour Cav. Not only have they made intermediate sprints worthwhile, winning stages is more heavily rewarded than in previous years.

Cav would have this wrapped up if the parcours hadn't been perfect for Gilbert.

they dont teach the dialects - its the standard italian that everyone can use. Ive tried learning how to speak in in a class but its hopeless for me cause when you get home normally mum as one dialict and dad has another so i get confused. Its easier for NON italians to learn it.

when the italians came to Aus in the 60's they kept their dialict between the families and when they go back the locals go WOW ive havent heard that in a long time.

Yes, but not contesting interemediate sprints during the harder stages now punishes Cav much more...

I think as far as a competition for "Most consistent finisher" like Green jersey is meant to be, then it's only fair that a guy who wins 6-7 stages should win it...

This year, with the harder route, guys like Gilbert are a big chance - again as they should be on this route in such a competition.

The changing of the rules just means Cav HAS to sprint for the intermediates, where as previously no one bothered until near the end.
