but the velodrome sprint is always different to a normal road sprint, because they do that slow lap thing, and its about who remembers how to sprint for the track sprint line.

so I dont think its necessarily about who is better/quicker in the outright sprint, its about getting positioning.

I also don't see much issue leading Pogacar on the cobbles. Van Aert takes more aggressive lines so it puts a bit of pressure on Pogacar
