Nibali losing ground today is pretty bad for Wiggins. He will have to try everything he can tomorrow and the will be great for Cobo and not so great for Wiggins.

Just a great stage. I love it when there is action before the final climb. Katusha rolled the dice and executed well, so credit to them for a brave effort even though Rodriguez never had the legs to make it a success.

Geox still looking for a stage win

I’d suggest they try looking a little bit harder. De La Fuente if anything seemed to knock Cobo off his stride as Cobo then stopped closing on Taaramae. Still, benefit of hindsight and all that, but de la Fuente must have stood a great chance if he was left to race for the stage win.

Delighted to see Taaramae win though. Terrible start to the Vuelta but he has knuckled down and been trying hard ever since. Based on today’s evidence (and the TdF) he has a big future, and soon.

Maybe it's good for Cobo, but there's no way it's bad for Wiggins. I wouldn't have thought I'd be saying this at the beginning of the Vuelta, but Froome and Wiggins look as strong as anybody in the mountains and they needed to gain time today. The last week is not as easy as you might think and there's lots of short, sharp climbs (not Wiggins territory). The less the number of real rivals, the better

Okay, here is my point: Wiggins finished 20 seconds behind Cobo and it happened in large part thanks to Froome imo who did incredible work when Cobo attacked. And today they raced for how much, 4km? If Wiggins was wasted at the finish today, hell is waiting for him tomorrow.

But is his opposition going to cope any better ? On today's performances it's doubtful unless Froome rides off the front without Wiggins. I think Cobo and Nibali will probably be the aggressors tomorrow. The others are either not good enough or just trying to hold their positions on GC.

sure how much? :D

I was very wrong. I hold my hands up on that. I never expected Wiggins and Froome to do what they did today. I am very happy to be proven wrong though!

Can't wait until tomorrow. Can Froome and/or Wiggins keep the lead tomorrow?

Like the look of Mollema and Cobo. Big danger to the Sky duo.

The counterpoint: Froome did a lot of work but only Wiggins, Poels, Mollema and Menchov could follow. Therefore it's a reasonable assumption to make that everyone else was wasted otherwise they would have finished with that group.

Nothing was left on the mountain today which will make Angrilu harder for everyone, not just Wiggins.

True, but then after stage 9 we had Wiggins finish strong and Nibali crawled over the line. Then in the Time Trial, Nibali was very solid and Wiggins under-performed. I need a crystal ball for tomorrow.

That's not really a great counterpoint because i'm not expecting Fuglsang or Kessiakoff winning. I said Cobo and he was going at the same speed as the bunch behind him where Froome and Wiggins shared the lead. Still expecting Cobo to put more time on Wiggins, i have only two unanswered questions in my mind:

1. How much time will he be able to put on Wiggins?
2. How strong Froome really is and will Sky turn him loose if Wiggins will struggle?

Why do you want Froome and Wiggins to hate eachother. This is one of those sports where 2 rivals can be friends. Froome seemed very happy at the finish offering his hand to Wiggo.

we'll see in the future.i can tell you that for now this is a vino-kash situation and i think that it will end in the same way regarding their relationship.
froome was angry that wiggins didn't shook his hand at the finish.wiggins was angry because froome didn't do his job till the least breath and then he should have gone at the back of the group but no,our friend,mr froome even let wiggins do the work for himself a few times.
of course i may be totally wrong.anyway incredible riding by sky.
so awesome to see cobo so back in the business,if he wins tomorrow he will win the vuelta.today he was absolutely flying.goddamn what a finale.

Could it be that Sky starting to ride for a 1-2 in the final GC and therefore spreading the work on both Froome and Wigans?

Well, they won't get 1-2 that's for sure. Let's hope they are trying for that because then they won't even have the winner on their team.

LOL at the posters who think the riders found wanting today will suddenly find the form to attack on a steeper mountain :~ when are you going to realise they cannot ride at Wiggins threshold? The steeper the mountain the sooner you go into the red - you don't miraculously find extra power because the gradient went up.

That was fecking awesome by Wiggo and Froome - seeing British riders dish it out on big mountains in a GT is something that will take some getting used to

absolutely true.

i was thinking about that too, they obviously can do a 1-2 in madrid.i still think wiggins was panicking with damn froome fresher than him at the finish line.

i was disappointed with nibbles today i admit but one thing is true. he always has 1 bad day in the mountains so maybe today was this days and tomorrow he pulls a performance like he did on the zoncolan. i wouldn't rule him out just yet even tho he kind of ruined his chances today.

here some points:

-this is a very exciting vuelta

- Cobo is unpredictable, he is able of the best and the worst, his problem is his head, he doesn't need any preasure. In San Lorenzo was clear he was so easy.
His tactics needs to be to suck Wiggo's wheel in Angliru and only attack lately, then he can get some precious seconds.

- Menchov should try something in El Cordal, with people like Nieve. Menchov is gonna be a darl horse in la last week

- Nibali is gonna atack in El Cordal descent...

- Angliru is different, then help is less necessary, we might see a team drama tomorrow between Wiggo and Froomy

-This Vuelta is far from being finished...
