Well, after today's stage I got a feeling Rujano is going to attack like a mad man as soon as the climb gets steep. Whoever of the GC guys, within reasonable time of Hesjedal, will be able to follow him will probably get the pink.

JRod in pink after this stage for sure. He might pick up the stage too.

Pozzovivo and Rujano to be in the mix tomorrow too, but the flat section is going to be hurtful - going to end up being 6 or 7 guys max at the finish.

Looks a proper hard stage again. A bit like yesterday: up and down right from the start. Should cause more of a difference than today.

Too bad about the 5 flat kms at the end.

Could make the race more interesting. :)

I predicted Scarponi for this stage before the Giro and after today's perfomance I am certainly sticking by that.

It makes a good day for Ventoso... He can climb decently, and can certainly sprint.

He seems to be riding himself into form.

I think we will see feature on Monday's stage and possibly other stages next week but i think that tomorow's may be just a bit too hard.

Liquigas will send a rider up the road on the last climb as a foil and I suspect that Szymd will be the one. The climb suits him and I doubt that any of overall contenders will chase him down.

I think they would prefer for him to act as Basso's shadow (yet in front) but possibly.

If anyone attacked I would favour Caruso or Cappechi who looked strong today.
I would mention Agnoli but he seems to have lost 7 minutes on today's stage.... maybe he was saving his energy and delibaretly losing time, Garzelli style?

Agnoli was in a counter-attack with Pietropolli and Pirazzi, not exactly saving energy ;)

Thanks. I only watched the end of the stage so I wouldnt have known.

Liquigas are certainly looking strong though. It will effectively be them vs Scarponi & Cunego in the mountains and the other GC guys.

Liquigas will try to play a few cards for later in the tour, and maybe having Szydt (or A.N. Other) in a challenging position will give them another hand to play in week 3.

What today showed was the teams that won't challenge for the overall. Still 2 weeks of racing, but I now know what teams I'd like to side with.

Indeed, but I have a feeling it wont be Szymd. Generally Liquigas have always employed him as a shield rider on the mountains, and especially with Basso who they may think will struggle on finishes such as tomorows.

Niemiec looks strong and should be Scarponi's bets mountain domestique. Of course if cunego is completely dedicated to scarponi he could be a good helper as well. But Liquigas seem really strong and will probably be controlling the race for most days.

Didn't realize that the first 1st cat climb is still a week away

yeah thats when the real fireworks begin.Tonite a group of 20-30 riders will finish within 30 seconds of one another"probably scarponi for the win.bring on the hard days...

looking at the profile- those 3k at 9% average are going to hurt some legs-perhaps some daring attacks from Rujano, Purito & Scarponi might cause the fracture among the favorites-even if there are some frat k's ahead-the launch path is set for those ready to gain time....

Garmin to TTT 5 back end of GC riders from the start to get a 4th person over the top of the first climb to help Hesjedal, VdV and Stetina control things through to km 180. Could see the Honey Badger doing all he can to stay with the peleton over the climb.
