Slagter had no idea he would be this good today else he would've never attacked that early.

I read that earlier and he admitted that in the end his inexperience cost him a better result on the day but that he had no idea he was thát good as you said which basically resulted in him being the perfect lead-out for Jrod. I'm glad he could assess his performance afterwards and acknowledge his mistakes of which I am certain he has learned from for next time. After all is said and done though he can be happy with what he has shown today and I, for one, was very impressed.

Pic of the day... Tom Jelte and J-Rod going mano e mano with big guns dying in the background. Go BUTCHER

just saw my recording of this afternoon, JRod followed easily TJS and when he accelarated TJS didn't try to follow, no mano a mano at all

Hesjedal didn't seem ok on this climb, maybe this type of climb didn't suite him at all, like basso.

Expected more of Uran, Henao and especially Cunego

I hope you have also seen the whole climb, since km 4. Slagter did most of the pacing - and attacking - and later admitted to doing too much though he had no idea he was that strong. Not saying he would have won against Jrod, but he most likely would have had more left in the tank for the final meters.

i've seen it , the last 5 km's and he did indeed a lot of work, if he didn't know if he was that strong he should have stayed in the bunch following for instance JRod since he didn't have a teammate to help him...

This is his first GT where he got a free role and is testing himself to find out his own limits. The guy is 22 for God's sake. In his post-race interview he said that inexperience and lack of knowledge about his own limits possibly cost him a better result. Sue him. He shoulda, coulda, woulda... In the end he did great and I'm certain he has learned a lot about himself and how to better handle a similar situation in the future. That's what this Giro is all about for him, learning, and if he gets a shot at a good GC placing or a stage win along the way than of course he will go for it.

don't you weight like 75 kilos tho?

Ha even less  But even that doesn't make me a good climber. I mean I can get over a hill or a climb easier than a 80kg normal person, or trained as not much as I. But any serious cyclist or serious tourist (who trains more than me) would own me

Isn't Battaglin significantly taller than Slagter;)

Slagter would fit right in at Colnago yeah

Point is I know us 175 types may seem like midgets to you dutchies, but its about average height and i would expect it to be average or even above average for cyclists.

Norway and Sweden are close with 1.82 and 1.815... next are Lithuania, Germany, Denmark and Czech Rep. all above 1.80m
Poland is 1.785, not bad...

Portugal 1.728 and Spain 1.780 and Italy 1.760
Midgets :p

Spain is 1.78? Im shocked. I was convinced it was about 175 or so.

Yeah I always knew Dutchies were tall.

Poland 1.78 seems low. Everyone i know there is easy 1.85, half of them 1.90 +. I thought i was bringing the average down all by myself.
