Barta would do well here but he's injured but still riding. He's even better than Huzarski this season.

Shame, didn't know that Jan is injured. What happend to him?

Hard to tell if he is better. For sure he is a better TT rider that's why he won Coppi and Bartali ahead of Huzar. But in the mountains Huzarski is for sure better. They are both very good and overall pretty much equal riders

i wouldn't go as far as saying the basso of 2010 wouldn't be a problem, don't forget that basso's performance on the zoncolan was tremendous, a shame it was the only time he really put the hammer down on that giro as on the other important mountain stages he either needed help for the rest of the stage (mortirolo-aprica) or was already in pink with the win in the bag (gavia-tonale).

rujano isn't exactly a nibali descending either

eventually if it comes down to it, it will be one on one for those 2 and with basso with a nearly 2 minute lead already i would put my money on him i think,

rujano isn't a great descender but nowhere near as bad as basso. check his giro 2005 stages he won and also last year. if there's no rain he doesn't really suffer in a downhil and he rides better solo in downhils than basso. the problems are he is so light and 48 kg is always a problem of some in the not so steep downhils, but I think they won't be much of a factor in the final week

Basso 40:45 and Anton 40:50 did almost equal time on Zoncolan in 2010 and 2011. I know this isn't a direct comparison, but 2010 Basso form could win this thing.

For reference Scarponi rode both years and rode it in 42:15 in 2010 and 42:01 in 2011.

So, Damiano loses 6, Jose 9 and Frankie 20, to the rest.
(32, 35 and 46 to Purito)
Minor significance.

To me, speculate all you like about how good Rujano will be in the high hills, but to me, the Italians have their own version, who continues to look the most likely to create mountain mayhem.

I thought Pozzovivo might drop a bit of time today.
Instead, he's first of the rest.

Yeah, Pozzovivo is the same type of rider as Rujano. The only difference is that Pozzo has been very impressive so far, whereas we wouldn't even notice Rujano if Ryo and his minions didn't mention him every 10 posts.

Pozzo winning the Giro would be pretty sweet.

The Butcher tried to butcher the whole bunch, but he only managed to butcher Schleck. He was still impressive though. J-rod's day's of steep stuff dominance are done:D.

We still can't say who's good and who's not. There still hasn't been raced hard on a mountain

Another finish near the front for Larsson, who is actually ahead of Rujano on GC. For a TT-specialist to be doing so well on these medium mountain stages must bode well for his chances in the final TT.

And now the battles of the sprinters...

Bos far ahead of Cavendish and Guardini
130 BOS Theo NED RAB 4:29:54 4:49
171 CAVENDISH Mark GBR SKY 4:32:54 7:49
181 GUARDINI Andrea ITA FAR 4:34:08 9:03

But is it enough for Bos to claw his way out of last place overall?! He needed 5:21 on Jeremy Hunt. :D

He was 14th overall in 2008. Top 20 is certainly possible this year.

purito's daughter looks cute holding that teddy bear ^_^

i also think rujano looks strong, but will he manage to recover the 2 minutes disadvantage he has on basso? Because basso looks to be on the same level as he was in 2010. Actually the entire liqui team looks super strong with szmyd, capechi, caruso and agnoli
Indeed. Basso is well positioned and looking good so far. So much can happen between now and the last ITT, however. Let us hope we get to witness a royal fight
