Lol. we speak each other again after next week. he lost a massive 7 seconds today to other favorites despite having no teammates and being placed horribly

i also think rujano looks strong, but will he manage to recover the 2 minutes disadvantage he has on basso? Because basso looks to be on the same level as he was in 2010. Actually the entire liqui team looks super strong with szmyd, capechi, caruso and agnoli

By all means I'd love to be proved wrong, rujano is an awesome rider. I'm just stating my feelings about his gt prospects.

the facts are. after nearly 2 weeks with the mountains still to coem he's 2 minutes down on most other gc favorites without sickness, crashes anything. the only bad luck he had was a flat tire in the ttt that cost them 30-40 seconds. but still all in all nothing to complain. me and also rujano would've signed for this before the giro. lastr year around this time he was 6 minutes down

basso 2010 should be no problem. keep in mind we have some hard and long mountainstages to go. I doubt he needs it but even if he has to go from far. basso is in all kinds of trouble with his downhilling. his team is very strong indeed but he will need it and in the end it will be man vs man anyway with possibly szmyd but he can't help everywhere either

Ah, but that's a completely different matter. If that's what you meant all along, then yeah, everybody's waiting, and it sucks. Purito went for the stage and pink jersey, Hesjedal was simply trying to save his jersey, Urán and Gadret could have gained some time for the GC. But the others? Bah.

Come the third week they'll be saying they're too tired to do anything, or they'll complain about there not being enough stages to take time or whatever.

Where were the going to go!? The freekin road was 2 feet wide and they were fighting for position from 15k out. It was a 3k uphill, downhill, uphill sprint.

Wait, on Sat. we'll see who has really good legs and who doesn't.

+1, limited losses well today.

The story of his race, so far.
Makes me think that the Cortina stage is even more important than any of the MTFs.

He wasn't the one to lose 30 places in one km of downhill at Rocca di Cambio.
I wouldn't place any eggs in Jose's downhilling basket.

I don't think he is in a bad position I just don't believe he will win, podium maybe, not sure. While a great climber, I do not believe he is the superman you portray him to be. You're not the only one who has followed him over the years (granted to lesser extents). He also will not receive the same freedom he did last year (as you said it 6 minutes back).

Again I'm fine with him proving me wrong.

Frank Schleck lost over 20 seconds on the short finishing climb. That doesn't bode well for his climbing form. Hopefully for his GC prospects he can ride himself into better shape by Saturday.

Purito!!!!

May have to relinquish the Maglia Rosa; It's too soon, and his team may not be fit to defend it all the way. Anyway, the russians must be glad with his performance. The final ITT in Milan works against him. He has already lost two Vueltas al País Vasco on the last ITT. Beware of Frankie' Shleck! and team Radio*Shack/Nissan^Trek!

According to Cycling news, jelte Slagter has finished 7th! Must have been an impressive ride

He attacked at least 4 times on the final climb and made all the splits that happened. Only in the last 300m he ran out of gas on the flatter finish... no power for the sprint
He basically led out the red carpet for Rodriguez all the way :p

Quite lacklustre finish by most of contenders, gapped by Slagter without much of an acceleration by Dutch. Purito was gift-wrapped this win and Huzarski must have gained huge confidence boost.

Btw, one rider who appeared to have been capable to even contest the win was Visconti - just that he started too far back and was obviously struggling to find gaps to pass people in the 2nd group for a long while.

People who failed to even finish in Hesjedal-Basso-Cataldo-etc. group definitely showed some weakness...

This is one of the days 1 guy at RCS doesn't do his job properly so we are without full results for hours... :(

i wouldn't go as far as saying the basso of 2010 wouldn't be a problem, don't forget that basso's performance on the zoncolan was tremendous, a shame it was the only time he really put the hammer down on that giro as on the other important mountain stages he either needed help for the rest of the stage (mortirolo-aprica) or was already in pink with the win in the bag (gavia-tonale).

rujano isn't exactly a nibali descending either

eventually if it comes down to it, it will be one on one for those 2 and with basso with a nearly 2 minute lead already i would put my money on him i think,

hmmm Netapp can not have good riders ?????

30+ riders raced hard on this climb

Barta would do well here but he's injured but still riding. He's even better than Huzarski this season.

Ignore him. he didn't watch the race but knows exactly what happened based on his "tell me who came 2nd and i will..." strategy which only works if you know far more about cycling to start with.

Pity that Cunego is clearly past his peak and won't be able to be more than a decent domestique for Scarponi. The idiots at Lampre have no idea about managing him. Rujano doesn't give me the impression of being as strong as last year, but we'll see.
