When they saw the tarmac wasn't up to Californian standards they decided to give up

Slagter always seems to ride like that, the times I've paid attention at least. He rides quite a big gear, which (to me) makes him less suited for the long, steep climbs.Spine Concept said:I must say that I was impressed by the apparent ease with which Slagter seemed to climb the steeper parts of the climb, almost holding back as if he was surprised that he could ''get away'' so easily. Too bad he missed the ''eindschot'' at the end but his efforts were impressive nonetheless. Aside from Poels, Slagter seems to really excel on the steep stuff for the Dutch. Cool.

He is a good alrounder, and he made great progress in the mountains this season. He was 7th in the Punta Valeno stage in Trentino, he was second in Coppi and Bartali, would easily be top ten in Trentino but crashed in the last stage.
To be fair he is not proven in such competition, this is only his second GT. He also never before had great results in high mountains.
Fingers crossed for Huzar. He is a great guy.
