after today's results......

Basso is set to win his 3rd Giro-no question about it. He's been bluffing on his shape & has just quietly done the hard work to get there fitted & mind set to compete..

On a normal parcours none of thiese frauds would stand a chance against real Grand Tour riders like Evans or Wiggins.
Did Evans win the 2010 Giro?

Anyway, yay Phinney!

In fairness to Bavarian Rider, there really were some horrible performances out there. Scarponi in particular was appalling.

Congratulations to Phinney. That was a dominant ride.

I have some sympathy with this point of view. GTs shouldn't be just about climbing. Sure, Contador can win that way but he is also a top notch TT'er.

Yeah, have to say I agree it's not a GT winner worthy to lose 1 minute in 8.7 km. Unless he is truly exceptional in the mountains. We'll see if any of these guys prove to be just that.

Sorry guys but you can't seriously defend this weak field.
This is one of the weakest fields ever in the Giro.

Blame those who didn't turn up.

Anyway, the racing matters at least as much as the field.

Purito very impressive, he has obviously worked hard.

If someone had said beforehand that he'd put 23 seconds into Scarponi in a flat time trial, I'd have worried about their mental health.

It's an amazing result for Phinney. At the tender age of 21 he has the pink jersey of the Giro d'Italia on his shoulders!!!!

Phinney was impressive yes, but JRod was the most impressive IMO. Good man!

So, after watching Garmin toast today, barring big surprises in Denmark Hesjedal is probably the virtual GC leader after the TTT.

If you had a few Giro climbs like Zonc in the race, then Basso would beat Wiggins, even with the 100k of tts.

And who are you to say that 20k at 6% crap is more of a gt parcors than 14 at 10% or so.

There weren't really that many individual time trials in 2010 now were there ;)

Climb time trial doesn't count obviously.

Yes, but also the good shape he showed in the Flèche Wallonne, and his sixth place in the Tour 2010.

Point is, why would you believe it now, and not afterhis 2010 TDF or 2011 Alpe?;)
