Liquigas did the right thing. They realize Basso cannot drop any big gun at 6-7% and hence they just tried to drill the peloton using pretty high pace and possibly restrain others' attacks. I'm sure, Giau and Pampeago will be an absolutely different genre. There, Basso and Scarponi will get a strong helper - a climb itself

I guess I must know nothing about cycling because I am finding this Giro pretty entertaining.

Do the velominati who are finding it boring long for the good old days of blood thicker than oil and elite athletes dying of heart attacks in their prime? But at least they'd attack from 10k out with a week still to race eh?

No way was that a gift btw

the 90's and 00's were boring despite all the things you mentioned, the 80's were much more exciting and that was before the 3 letter world came into play

Not good:(

Well that's it for him, he should try to save himself for Pampeago or Stelvio for stage win

I don't buy the "they don't have the legs" thing. No one does? They're all at exactly the same level? They can't attack unless they feel like they're just done with the warm-up?

When someone like, say, Scarponi, feels tired, you can bet most of the others must be worse off. That's when he has to attack. Ask Hinault.

I feel just the same way.

How exactly is Basso going to win this Giro anyway?

Jrod can win stage 16 and grab bonus seconds. Stage 17 ends on a descent, so Basso will lose a lot of time there, stage 18 is flat. That leaves just stage 19 and 20. Plus he'll lose time again on stage 21 and he is already a minute and 30 seconds behind. They're really staking everything on stage 19 and 20 and I hope they fail big time.

Rujano only 4:15 down? I think Ryo must be slowly being revived somewhere, and preparing a mega-post on how Rujano will still tear everyone apart

I've seen very conservative racing before. But waiting for the last 2 km of the final climb, two days in a row, at the friggin' Giro? No, sorry, that's a new low.

It's only a new low because the first 16 stages of the race are irrelevant. Sadly this is the kind of scripted race they had in mind when creating the route.

Common folks!!! the stage was really entertaining if you weren't concentrating on the GC riders-I agree with the so called "Basso train" weeping the pace with super Szmyd, but heck that's his job & it's the only way Ivan is going to get results. Cunego did provide entertainment, so Pirazzi, Amador & all the riders in the chasing group. Rabottini put a great show-so Losado & Purito-thanks a lot for breaking away & give the GC contenders a lesson.

Correct. In the 80s climbers couldn't TT so they had to attack early at the base of climbs and the TTs had to gain time on flat stages with breakaway attempts.

Nowadays everything is evened out meaning teams just rotate off the front at high speed to the last 3km.

fron CN's facebook wall:
Matteo Rabottini (Fanese Vini-Selle Italia) produced a remarkable performance to win stage 15 of the Giro d'Italia this afternoon. Katusha's Joaquim Rodriguez finished narrowly behind him and snatches back the ponk jersey from Ryder Hesjedal with less than a week to go...

Let the fight for the Ponk Jersey begin!

Exactly. Gutsy ride by Rabottini. Rodriguez put in a smart attack at the end and then showed great class at the end.

If the main contenders are going to wait until the last week, well, this is what we'll have. But others aren't waiting and that's where the excitement comes from for me.

Yes, exactly. They're hoping they can win it in one or two stages, which is foolish, because they could be winning it now and not have to pray they don't catch a cold, get caught up by a crash or mechanical, or any other factor that could make things don't go their way on D-Day. This Riis School of GT Winning is seriously flawed.

That's why I'm hoping Purito or Hesjedal will win this, as funny as it would look on the palmares.

For the record, the stage itself was very entertaining, thanks to Rabottini and the Cunego group. But the contenders cannot be spared.

Hesjedal still has final TT card above everyone else as well, he is the main favorite along purito imo

Rujano FAILS big time, lol :p

we all knew rain and cold weather could ruin it before the Giro. Even Ryo said that if it's cold he feared he would flop....
And it did turn into rain and cold. Worst scenario
