OT: Project 1t4i would come to the Giro with a team filled with the likes of Bert De Backer, Koen De Kort, Simon Geschke, Yukihiro Doi, Johannes Fröhlinger, Mathieu Sprick, Roy Curvers and Albert Timmer. Thanks but no thanks. Having two good young sprinters (and do they both even want to ride the Giro?) just isn't enough for a Giro invitation.

Well, having nothing but aged dopers like Garzelli and di Luca seems to be enough for others...

Or what about a team that could consist of Juan Pablo Forero, Javier Gonzalez, Wilson Marentes, Frank Osorio, Dalivier Ospina, Carlos Quintero, Michael Rodriguez, Jeffry Romero?

1t4i deserves an invitation for nearly every race they want to get in. GT-wise I'd prefer them to be able to do Tour and Vuelta instead of the Giro.

Betancur, Ginanni, Napolitano and Taborre, too. But it's the weakest eligible Italian team, that's true. That's why I didn't vote for them.

But indeed, if all European organizers follow your reasoning, we'll never see a Colombian team in a GT again, while I think they should be given at the very least one or two chances.

I agree. But not this year. They should gather some experience this year in Europe at smaller/mediumsized races and can return for a GT in 2013.

that would be very stupid as colombians really shine in gt's way more than in any other type of races because they have incredible recuperation and love very hard mountaiunstages back to back. in the 80s did you see colombian teams dominating races like vuelta murcia, pais vasco or whatever no! but you did see them in every gt all over the place. they don't need experience. they have their own races., the vuelta colombia I dare say is the 4th gt

There are way too much "4th GTs" round here... :D

Yes it is.
"RCS Sport, organisers of the Giro d'Italia, Milan-San Remo, Tirreno-Adriatico and Il Lombardia, has named the 14 teams which will comprise the pool of wildcard candidates for all of its events".
and it then goes on to list nine of the teams who "made the list for the four places available for May's Giro d'Italia"
and then says
"Also in the list" and lists the other five.
Nowhere there does it disclude or imply that any of the latter five are discluded

The part in bold is true. That's all CN had to work with.

Get this, though:

http://twitter.com/#!/micacquarone/status/154672323348279296

Europcar was part of Cycling News list of nine that "made the list for the four places available for May's Giro d'Italia" but apparently didn't even apply for it.

The info RCS released was pretty straightforward, though, 14 teams applied for their races, but they didn't specify which races they applied for. That's all it was, but I guess CN just had to make a "story" out of it.

Thanks for the plug in the article on the front page :D
All the direct quotes without tidying up (eg serpa -> Serpa; plus one or two typos) looks a bit unprofessional IMO.

Based on the publicity that this thread is receiving in CN site, I hope that Coldeportes gets an invitation. I hope that Italian organizers read this site.:)

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/forum-hot-topic-giro-ditalia-wild-cards

The reason I want Coldeportes to be invited is plain and simple: I want Duarte to replicate the performance he had in La Linea (Vuelta a Colombia) a few years back. Total demolition of the peloton. Completely outstanding. Even last year in the Giro de Trentino the way he beat everybody in the MTF. He was so in control and cool as a cucumber. He really has a big potential.

la linea 2009 was incredible. something rarely seen anywhere. that's why I think he could be on level of contador or rujano on a good day. because that day in 2009, my god...

also not many may find this impressive but he has more of these days. in circuito montanes there was a stage in horrible weather where he attacked in the first climb and destroyed the whole field.

I can't find it now but there was a MTF where he and Cano rode away from everyone. I thought it was Asturias one year but can't find it now? The boy's got talent.

that was asturias 2010, alto acebo I will never forget how they gave bike lessons in climbing that day

basically cano went with duarte in the wheel and the rest couldn't believe it. within 4 km had over minute gap and behind were forcing

that amazed even me as I think very highly of colombians in climbing but am often amazed by how good they really are in europe

nice to read that also other cycling sites wrote about this poll, mundo ciclisto, bicigoga espn etc.hope everyone of us will make the twitter account of acquarone an online hell if he will scrrew it up and invite some amateur team to il giro

Eshnar said:
Really? Can you please link that?

i've read it on twitter.basically they just copied it from cyclingnews front page an translate it in spanish, still it's good.rcs have to know inviting a team like champion system or team type 1 would be a disgrace for giro's history.

QQ... stop crying... you cant do even a single post without naming a doper or talk about doping...

Betancourt is a massive talent! With a better prep He can have a nice Giro...

Duarte was doing a nice Giro the last year until he crashed... I think that He could have won one stage and do serious damage in the mountains...

i completely agree with you
betancur is great talent.
i am afraid about his work and training ethic: he has already a contract with liquigas in the pocket ( that means a lot of money for a colombian) so i do not know how serious he will be preparing next giro.
he proved in finestre stage, in giro emlia and lombardia he can really be one of the best in the mountains.

I like König, too. But NetApp is far away from being a competitive team at a GT. No chance they will get an invitation.

I do as well. If i knew that NetApp would definitely get an invite to a GT i would have included him in my CQ team. As it is i hope he has a good season this year which will either get NetApp an invite to a GT next year or he can get a PT contract.

Betancur should gravitate as well to a WT team soon ( after the Liquigas debacle )
