Quite weird that they're sending their A-squad to Algarve. I guess it's so that the TDF squad gets to do a couple of races together before the TDF with more or less the same team composition.
Algarve is also a good prep race for Paris-Nice.

A lot of teams send very good squads to Algarve.

Leipheimer, Armstrong and Contador have all raced in Algarve together in 2009. Leipheimer and Contador in 2008, Basso and Contador in 2007, etcetera

This year OPL also had their A squad in Algarve. Well you get the point, a lot of examples.

Due to his weddingplans Thomas de Gendt will skil the Tour and ride both the Giro and the Vuelta, according to wielerflits.
Would be nice to see him progress there.
Wondering wether he will develop into a classictype ride or gc rider

That's great really. His showing on Alpe d' Huez and TT makes me think he can be a viable GC threat in the future. Although he seems to have a very good tactical sense so the classics should suit him well too. I would say he's one of the most exciting prospects on his team. I just hope he doesn't ride the Giro in the way Hoogerland did last year: chasing down breakaways without any hope, riding just for TV..... I mean, that's all very good but if the talent is there to go for GC, why ride like that? I don'r mind see him on breaks but at least with some hope of winning:)

i think De Gendt could at the Giro win on the Strade. He could try go well on the mountains and then challenge FTW in the ITT. If he went ok in the mountains in the Giro, hopefully that would give him confidence at the Vuelta to go for GT. He and Poels would be a good tandem.

I would still want to see him use his attacking flair though, in other races.

oh gawd.

De Gendt =/= gc guy.

kruijswijk probably start season at mallorca, before going to pn or ta, basque and the ardennes.
then altitude training and emphasis on his season goal; le tour. He hopes to do well in gc @ the tour also. Avoiding trouble in the first week and working on his tt in the winter.

According to this Tirreno-Adriatico may climb the Prati di Tivo this year.

It was used by the Giro in 1975 on stage 3. It is 14k long with an average gradient of 7%. And you have quite a few possibilities to combine it with other climbs.

Wielerland already have the stage maps. Last year's climb is featured again. No time trial, apparently.

just starting mapping Oman (which is a pain)

Stage 1 Basically flat with a deceptive profile
http://www.bikemap.net/route/1374030

Stage 2 - flat all the way but runs right along the coast
http://www.bikemap.net/route/1374063

Stage 3 - Flat again, not helped by some of the roads not existing
http://www.bikemap.net/route/1374100

Stage 4 - Flat again, and missing 20km somehow..

More to follow

they never do california, neither did last year and for strade bianchi have to be invited and weren't last year. maybe they also aren't invited to california because there are already other invites to colombian teams and american teams
