He won the ITT of Circuit de la Sarthe last season (OK not very good field but still) and I think he was pretty good in the ITT in Oman too which was a little bit hilly

Bennati has had some good results in prologues before and has been sat in the autobus all week, not a massive surprise.

EDIT: All those other posts above saying the same thing weren't there when I posted, honest! :D

Yeah, but this is a possible winning time(Cancellara will go under it I'm sure) againt a great field in a prestigious race.

Yeah, show a time trial where the wind changed for the big favorites

Still did a good time and being a sprinter you would expect him to do better at shorter distances than that.

Millar comes in 11 seconds down. Lets see how Bennati's time stands up as the later runners come in.

10.36 for Canc - not sure it will be enough
Too bad Boom isn't here anymore, last year he was the only one decently close to Cancellara in short time tirals. :(

I'm comparing Bennati's time to last year's times.

If it was Boonen, a rider who has shown comparable yet somewhat inferior short TT skills, you wouldn't bat an eyelid.

So I can't be surprised if Boonen does a good time trial? Ok, I'll remember that one.

He's slower than last year though (if just slightly).

The time may be slower, but that doesn't mean that the actually rode slower. Even with the GC on the line, I'd be surprised if any of the top 3 break 10:40 because they never seem to have shown this type of TT skills in the past.

But mightnt the wind be different?;)

Anyway, he's a good tt-er sometimes when he can bothered, especially in shorter time trials, but i think we can agree that coming top 3 in this sort of event would be a surprise given previous results. Must be in good shape for Milan San-Remo although there is a separate thread for that.

Now, lets see what times the others can put up and see how the GC battle works out.

Man, I'm stoked for the GC showdown... just catching up on this thread, I don't remember a 3-way battle that had such differing opinions in recent memory... I'm slightly pulling for Kreuziger, but that's only for fantasy game purposes. Horner winning at 40 would be awesome (he's not insufferable unless he's talking about Armstrong), and Nibali's shown some guts all week so a win would be well deserved. I have a feeling of inevitability about Horner, but I guess we'll see.
