They wear yellow numbers as leaders of the team classification. Surely that would suffice? From their tweets in the morning you get the feeling they were a bit embarrassed to be wearing them especially given another team had the yellow jersey and paris is three weeks away!

Agreed, good call. The helmets way over-emphasize a competition few teams have really ever cared much about.

I like that they're trying new things though, so cool that they did it, but IMO this doesn't quite work. Maybe I'll get used to it.

Kittel ahead of Greipel & Goss in the odds for tomorrow. Is that justified?

Cav 8/5
Kittlel 3/1
Greipel 5/1
Sagan 7/1
Goss 11/1

Definitely a 5 horse race,

Petacchi, Farrar & Renshaw all 40s - 6th favourite.

Most of his victories this year have all come from sprints. I think there are much more interesting riders out there based on riding style.

My post was in reference to this which you didn't include...(i.e. addressing the winning volume)

I think its an idea that will fade away shortly. Like you said the yellow numbers should be enough.

Wouldn't mind helmets with a bit of yellow trim on for the team classification, but the all yellow ones look incredibly naff.

While I see your point, I wouldn't call Sagan a wheelsucker in this scenario considering the effort it took to be in the position that the 3 of them were in.
Sagan was the first to chase down Chavanel with Cancellara smartly attacking shorting after that catch was made. Unfortunately for him, Sagan still had something in the tank to answer with. Cancellara seemed frustrated that Sagan was able to respond and all his weaving about the road to shake Sagan likely only made it easier for EBH to catch them. You said that Cancellara wants to win big and be remembered but that hasn't happened that often recently and just maybe he needs to alter his tactics. These young guns like Sagan and EBH and eventually Moser will likely frustrate his efforts at the grande victories that he covets.

I couldn't agree more that it's going to be increasingly difficult for him to win a la grande, particularly as he never gets any pulls/turns/supports. But as I know him, he's not going to alter his tactics. It's just not him these tactical plays, although that's sometimes what cycling makes also fascinating. He is the brute force Spartacus. But the young ones are coming... MSR, RVV, E3, SB, PR it will be getting increasingly difficult to repeat his wins going forward. But should he ever be in the form he had on April 1 this year, nobody can challenge him. He told me personally that he had never been feeling so great and such strong form and legs like that day. Which made the crash/injury even more frustrating. He'd have destroyed the entire peloton, not the slightest doubt. Let's see if he will ever get back to that level. As Gallopin pointed out today, Cance is only at 90% yet... whatever...

And yes, I did read Sagan even apologised to Cance for not taking a pull. He just had to make sure that he was not losing his wheel and preserve his forces for the sprint. Maybe I overestimated Sagan's condition. However, it seemed he was climbing so easy and light...

Article 10 of the Tour de France Rules -

"...Riders
of the leader team in the team ranking will
wear specific bibs with black numbers on a
yellow background as well as yellow helmets
provided by teams."

They may have been optional in the sense that the ASO consulted before introducing the rule, but it is there now and will remain so until the end of the race.

For the benefit of those who have English as a second language, the use of 'will' rather than 'can' denotes an obligation, no matter what that Belgian says.

Can anyone explain what Lotto were doing in the run up to the finale? They all sacrificed and were out before the hill. Could not figure it out.

Everyone that tried to follow Chavanel went too far into the red too early and dissapeared. Orica Greenedge and LOtto-Belisol were all up there, but made the same mistake.

So again Bruyneel is right and you ****ers talking about him like he's crappy.

No, Bruyneel is incorrect, he tweeted his incorrect information to Arveson, who then repeated it.

------------

Watching the repeat now, Wiggins entered the climb in about 50th place and pulled himself forward to 10th or so pretty quickly.

Not bad for someone who can't do sharp short climbs.

BTW, I do agree with your point about his celebration at the end though.

Sagan is a great rider, but I really dislike him just because of his victory celebrations. So f**** childish, unnecessary and unattractive. Just ride your bike, and raise your arms in celebration. Don't try so damn hard to look cool.

Same with Contador and his pistolthing.

But they also use "must" and "mandatory" in the règlement, which seem stricter. But yeah, you are right that Sky are simply following the rules, I just hope they can show up with their regular helmets without having to pay a million Swiss francs. Because they looked ridiculous out there today.
