We can blame Evans for his tactial mistakes (If they now are mistakes, maybe he will put it all on the line tomorrow.), but the major problem for Evans is that he hasn't got 1 or 2 really strong climbers with. Tejay just isn't good enough to set up attacks for Evans. BMC choose to spend a lot of money on getting Gilbert and Hushovd, but maybe they should have spent some of that money on bringing some strong climbers to team with the aim of helping out Evans in the tour.

Depends on the parcour, what he's gained in climbing ability he seems to have lost in the TT's,many one week races this year(as this TDF) seem to be settled by the |TT.
Or were you being sarcastic(clinic)?

Outdated traning technuques? Haha, yeah.. I'm sure that's why the worlds best cyclist has renewed his contract. Because of outdated, unprofessional training techniques.

So - how was the stage at the end? Had it been a better racing than a stage with MTF?
IMHO, today we saw why the design of stage was awful as Nibali try to go on decent but it was impossible to stay in front more than 40km after the major climb. If Colombier was 15-20km from finish Nibali might have chance.
MJ group had 16 riders at finish - more or less as expected/predicted. Evans and Menchov were smart because they didn't spend energy unnecessarily. You cannot fight against strong domestiques in long descents.
It is too pity Mur de Peregue is 39km from finish because it is possible to reach Foix in 26km. Without this unnecessary loop around Foix Nibali or other contender might have a chance.

I think plan for next year is Porte win Giro, Wiggins win Tour, and Froom win vuelta. Porte doing Giro-tour, Froom doing Tout-vuelta. SKY UNSTOPPABLE:D

Sarcasm I guess. With Saxo Bank he came 7th in the Giro 2010, which shows what highly talented rider he is. 2011 was a bad year, he had some good timetrial results but climbed poorly. This year with Sky he has dropped several kilos which have helped him back in good climbing shape, but on the other hand his timetrialing is not so strong any more. If there is more to it, I don't want to speculate about.

I've been following the forums for the last 5 or so years, enjoying both the enlightening and embarrassing contributions by various posters.

However, I have only now felt the need to register (in July) to ask a question I couldn't find answered elsewhere - does anyone know why RSNT aren't wearing yellow helmets?

it is optional choice, RSNT think only leader can wear yellow helmet

Porte didn't do anything exceptional today. Unlike Nibali he wasn't riding to get to the finish in the best position possible so he was able to ride much harder than him to bridge the gap. This is surely basic common sense?

I'm not being sarcastic. I'm honest. Porte may have lost his TT ability slightly, but he himself said that he took the Tours stage 9 ITT lightly in order to save energy. And if Brad Wiggins can improve his TT ability even after losing 8kgs, I see no reason why Porte can't.
He has shown he has improved his climbing ability tremendously judging by the way he effortlessly reeled in Nibali on the Cat 3 Climb.
A win in the Giro or the Vuelta may be a step too far for him, but if he concentrates on one week stage races like Catalunya, Tour Die Suisse, Beijing, he should win.
