Big props for the amount of spectators.

Just turned on the stream and I'm seeing barely any spectators. Just some people at the side of the road wondering what the F*** is going on? :D

edit: I see there is a nice crowd at the finish line.

Nothing screams "GRAND TOUR" like a sub-70km crit.

I understand why the Tour does it, and to some extent the Vuelta, but I really think non-GTs shouldn't really have the self-congratulatory "look guys, you made it to the finish!" ceremonial stage. It annoys me that the Volta a Portugal has started doing them; it used to be that that final weekend was the Alto da Torre and a tough ITT, now you get a parade to congratulate riders for lasting 11 days.

It's only 8 days, they should be able to race to the finish, right? Doesn't need to be totally killer climbing, just something like the Vineyards stage in 2010, I thought that was a good way to finish the race. Or race south-north one year, have Baldy on the first weekend, then encourage riders to try to take time on Sierra Road or Bonny Doon because they have to make up the time gaps, and have the finishing circuit race in San Francisco instead of LA, so it could be a bit tougher.

Nice having the finish in downtown Los Angeles, one of the world' great cities.
Big crowds, and just think, with a race like this how many children might be encouraged to take up the sport!

Could you please comment on all the potholes and manhole covers on the tarmac?

Well any modern downtown with a sewer system and underground power and telco will have them, don't think I've been to any major city without them. They can be an issue if they are not level with the blacktop but I doubt they have any here that are popping up or recessed much.

I think crteriums like this are great.
Putting them at the beginning of the stage and spicing them up with many time bonuses would be grat. Imagine on the last 10 laps or so, the winner gets 1 minute each, 2nd 50 secondfs and so on. This would be an epic battle. And on wide smooth roads like this one it would work without a problem
