Yeah who would have thought. I didn't expect GC or stage top 10. Gallopin also getting some good results. Bouhanni confirming!
Fuglsang is the only one of the GC guys here who has shown great form (well, apart from Chavanel maybe). I actually expect a lot from him.

Looks like Fuglsang and Nibali are strong. It was perfect today for JRod but he was a bit behind so i guess he's far away from his top shape.

? Rodriguez finished a spot ahead of Nibali, and has a 3 second advantage, 6 behind Fuglsang. Rodriguez is more punchy than other GT contenders and mountain goats, but this wasn't quite a stage with his name written all over it.

I would say it was perfect for him. If little Slagter could survive this and finish high then Purito should do exactly the same if he has some decent early season shape. Both Nibali and Fuglsang showed some good form before coming to Oman (Nibali in SAn Luis, Fuglsang in Mallorca) and thats they other reason why i rate them higher then Rodriguez. But the Spaniard still may surprise on the mtf stage.

Nibali didn't show any form going uphill. Only in the TT. In the mountain stages in San Luis Nibali was pretty 'meh'

Fair enough; I guess I'm in a 'could be worse' (schleck-esque) form

So how's the GC shaping up now? Sagan's got the lead I take it, but how far down is everybody else I wonder...

J-Rod wasn't in the first echelon when they hit the Green Mountain last year. Okay, could be a sign of bad form, but maybe not for an echelon specialist like him ;)

True, but I remember he had some health issues early season as well. This is coming from my memory which isn't always the most trustworthy.

Looking at the 10 it was not perfect for him. It wasn't hard enough.

Not steep enough and not long enough.

Now that's a strange top10. Almost as if someone picked random names for the top10, but the winner makes too much sense for that.

Fuglsang 8th... Just when I told someone how in the hell he could expect Fuglsang could finish top10 today. (When that person actually meant top10 GC).
Just what I thought as well. That is one weird mix of sprinters, rouleurs and climbers in the top 10 :p

Fancy you being critical of Nibali's climbing. Whatever next?;)

True, but you have to factor in that he's got 2 reasonable efforts on 2 MTFs already under his belt, as do a few others.
Should put him in better shape than most.
If he's interested in the GC, it's reasonable to assume that he can get in the mix.
However, Purito doesn't seem to need much of a warm up, when it comes to going up steep hills, fast.

I give him credit when deserves it. Like in the Giro last year where he climbed exceptionally well until the final 2 stages, where he did well in minimizing his losses.

But I can't possibly give him credit for his climbing in San Luis because that was simply sub-par. Ofcourse he can't keep up with Contador, but he couldn't keep up with Dani Diaz or Rubiano even either. That leaves me to the conclusion that his climbing-form is not yet what it supposed to be.

End of...
I don't rule out that he will do well here or win here. I'm just saying that you can't base that on San Luis, because he actually wasn't that good there

That's still better form than many of the climbers who are here though. Andy Schleck obviously has no shape. Fuglsang was outclimbed by Nordhaug, Costa and Henao in Mallorca, so he's probably on about the same level as Nibali. Velits couldn't follow those guys either, and Rodriguez was also far behind in Mallorca but he might not have been trying hard.

His climbing wasn't subpar at all, he was clearly holding back in training mode.

If you are holding back you won't finish top 10. Unless you're Contador

Also, if you list Ten Dam as favorite, then list Slagter as well. He is a climber after all.
If you really only want to list the favorites just keep it at Rodriguez, Nibali and Fuglsang

No, it's nonsense to think Nibali is holding back when he finishes within half a minute and a minute of the winner, and in the top 10 of a tough uphill finish, when in 'training mode'. That's impossible or Nibali is now a genius who can win races with 2 minute advantage when not holding back.
