New era of cycling.

JV might have to change his view on this new era business.

Garmin riders don't cut it.
Tell that to Rohan Dennis, the Garmin neo pro who finished in the front peloton.

Talansky has no race rhythm. And he's not a natural climber, he needs racing to find his climbing legs.

If it had been a Sky rider up there instead of Veilleux, I have no doubt you'd have been cheering like mad.

I'm not talking about whether I like the result (and I don't dislike this one).

The point is this stage was dull.

There was never any thought something could happen on GC, and it was always clear who would win the stage. There was certainty about all the important outcomes, and so there was no interest in watching it.

Yeah, in that sense, it wasn't the most exciting stage, I agree. It was still nice to see Veilleux put in such an inspired ride. But, yeah, this is a stage I wouldn't care to watch again or anything.

Rogers is riding the Dauphine.

He didnt ask about Rogers (infact he said Rogers was the only one with Cotnador). He asked about Roman and Roche

Talansky came 2nd in PN with 2 days of racing in his legs. He needs to have training in his legs, just like any other rider.

Yup. The new era of cycling.
What's this about the new era? Garmin bring a bunch of cr.p riders, it would be more of a concern when they all finished in the front group, rather than one of them. Although you'd have expected it to be Talansky, not Dennis.

The mountains didn't start on the first day there, if I'm not mistaken...

The latter happens only rarely in WT races, so I think it's nice when it does.

It's a good thing etc. but from a spectator point of view I prefer a sprint for the win.

Whether the escapee is going crazy or not. I don't base my evaluation of a race on how hard the riders are suffering.

Kiry 6 minutes back, without doing any work. That's very surprising. Still, 6 Sky riders finished in the peloton, so I doubt they are very worried.

And your man getting dropped like a stone at one point. What's going on there? I thought he was producing his ''best ever numbers''?

No idea. I don't think he looked very tired when he was dropped though, so he might just be saving energy. But remember, he's the only Sky rider in Dauphine who didn't train in Tenerife.

He finished in the front group, AFAIK you don't get any points for riding hard uphill all the time. Might be more sensible to catch the pelleton on the downhill. And the peleton always seems to go slow on the downhill. Energy saved is energy remaining.

As for all those who got dropped who we wouldn'nt expect to drop etc. People have good days and bad days. Perhaps somebody had a bad night sleep? A slight cough perhaps? Or wanted to save themselves for other stages? Trained hard and not at peak on day one? Who knows.

He had his peak in the Tour of Norway :p
That'd be quite sad...but EBH doesn't really "peak", his form is usually completely steady, at least from May to late autumn :)

But I wouldn't read too much into him almost being dropped today, all the other fast guys except from Meersman finished 10-15 minutes behind him. EBH is usually much better a few days into a stage race too.
