If only Quintana was here to set Porte straight.... again ;)

No techinical descents means Porte>>Quintana (He was descending like Basso and he was probably ordered to not take any risks)

Luckily we got all that in the 2nd one in the Tour :) But really would be weird if he was actually ordered not to go full gas when it was for the overall win (don't believe it one second).

Based your estimated speed, Veilleux would end up about 26 seconds ahead of Froome in GC - Froome 37.5 minutes vs 39 for Veilleux in the ITT. Veilleux's result in the Canadian TT championships isn't very impressive. Might the other results have been skewed by him taking the ITT as a "rest day" given that he was not a GC contender or a threat to win the ITT? He will certainly be giving it everything he has tomorrow.

Difficult to read how much he put into all of these. He can probably perform even better in this TT, but how much? As far as I can tell, he has never broken the 50 km/h (avg) barrier in a long-ish TT.

Anyway, it will be interesting. Hopefully he can hang onto the jersey.

Descending like basso is old, now its descending like wiggins.

Now that's an insult to Port's descending. Only Andy descents as bad a Wiggo ;)

The theory was he was ordered to ride cautiously on the descends to prevent any crashes in a prep race for them. He was going faster than Quintana on flat(iirc) but lost huge time on descends.

Zam, no one can descend worse than Wiggo (Even Andy and Basso are not close imo)

For Porte it surely wasn't a prep race. When u are a GT domestique you sure *** hell ride your *** off when u are in form and get the chance to make a result in a WT race. That said he might be a bad descender or just scared. But no way he was holding back on purpose.

so what about our friend Veilleux. How much time will he drop to Froome?

A few TT markers:

...
...
...
33 VEILLEUX David Team Europcar 1:02 49.338

I think Froome will do about 52km/h. Veilleux max 50km/h.

Anybody good at math?

Those times don't really indicate anything much, with the opportunity of keeping the yellow jersey on his shoulders he will be riding like he has never done before. I guess the Canadian Nats TT is probably the best indication as that is the only one he would have given everything for.

i'd go with g thomas just because he looks great on the bike and those glasses fit him well

sky can top 3 here no doubt
curious to see alejandro and alberto, very curious...
also veilleux if he will keep it, i'd say yes i hope so

I can see Thomas riding well and a Sky 1 - 2 - 3 in the stage is not an outlandish possibility.

Came 2nd in BR TT recently, don't think he will manage a Top 3 here though.

Valverde can have a good ITT but also a really sucky one.

In the dauphine he's usually superb though.

I think there are enough data to say he will likely stay in yellow after the TT, but it will be tight.

Apart from the usual suspects- & whether or not Froome & Porte will get minutes over Contador, What is going to be the hot topic about this ITT is "how ridiculously good Valverde performed" -mark my words;)
