based on what? on pdbf both wiggins and nibali were in the sky slipstream. That took a lot more out of Nibali than it did out of Wiggins. Why should it be any different if neither was in slipstream?

Hey, it's Nibali. He has to be better than Wiggins purely based on cojone size.

guys, interesting discussion,my look...imo Nibali will lose about 2'15 - 2'30 in Saltara TT because this TT is more like 1st TT of Tour12 not the 2nd,probably even more technical and uphill but longer,so just under two and half minute on Wiggins is fine.Important part of the race imo should be the hilly stages where Nibali can do real damage to Wiggins(1+minutes),cos of downhills, crazy attacks, weather etc.:cool:In real mountains he has to pick up at least 1 minute through the whole 3 weeks - imo its hard, but its possible. And on top of that he should pick up 20-30 secs in MTT on Wiggins...if he does this he will be the winner of Giro d'Italia 2013 :)

That was just an uphill sprint, and Nibbles sucks in any kind of sprint...

No way Nibali will gain any time on Wiggins on the MTT. I'll be satisfied if he loses less than 30 secs

Don't forget Nibali on the Peyragudes. Liquigas went on to the front from far out making it look like Nibali was in a strong position to attack on the final climb but in the end they were covering for his weakness. Liquigas didn't even take out huge chunks of time out of the break that day.

And I don't get all this Nibali hype over Wiggins either. Last year Wiggins didn't put one foot wrong out of place and this year there is nothing to suggest that Wiggins and his Sky team won't be on similar form either. The timing of the long TT will suit Wiggins hugely where he will take huge amounts out of him and defend it from there. Wiggins being in the overall lead at this stage will suit his defensive mindset in the mountains where all he has to do is to do is mark others with the Sky train helping him to stifle the race. Nibali might have some opportunities like stage 7 where it might be harder for teams to control where there might be an unpredictability about it. But will he take huge chunks here? No chance and certainly not enough to take back anywhere near the TT time he will lose.

Nibali was injured that day. Discussed about it 1346124782 times already.

Yes, he said he was injured.

But why then did he attack in the early part of the stage? You don't do that or even try to attempt it if an injury is seriously impeding you.

Why not? There is not a flat metre on that day and most of the TT is from 6-7%,I don't see a problem, imo he has a solid chance;)

edit: its about climbing not TTing

Exactly.

Wiggins will rock out his Col d'Eze special bike and kick Nibali's teeth in.

Nibali and Gesink:

he didn't attack, he just took the descent in front in order to avoid crashes and eventually found himself on the breakaway :D

I think he means that it's not certain that Wiggins will have the same shape as in 2012. It wouldn't surprise me that after the best year of his carreer he is a little less focussed or maybe worked a little less in the winter. If Wiggins has his Tour-shape, it's going to be a boring race.

I voted 2 months ago for nibali, i thought wiggins wouldn't get his old level but catalonia and 'sky' has shown me enough :(

How many impressive TTs has Nibali rode this year?

none, but he isn't the one supposed to put 3-4 minutes into the competition in a 55k time trial like some people said wiggins would easily do

also the giro has bonus seconds and hilly stages where nibali is clearly better so a 1 minute deficit could be closed on those alone and wiggins won't put more then 2 minutes into nibali in the time trial because according to nibali the time trial is very technical and constantly up and down so wiggins won't have as much of an advantage as he would have it it was completely flat like the last one of last years tour.

IMO there's not enough very hard hilly stages to really favour Nibali. If Wiggins didn't have such a ridiculously strong team around him, then sure, but I think they'll strangle the life out of the race. Probably 5 of the top 15 climbers in the field will be in Sky jerseys FFS....

In 2012 Wiggins caned everyone regardless of whether the TT was hilly or technical, both or neither.

Personally I see Wiggins winning this at a canter á la Tour 2012, or finishing off the podium with a really bad day somewhere. He's far and away the best TTer in the field, his climbing is consistent these days, and unless something unusual happens, he'll have one of the strongest GT teams in the last decade around him.

The last real result of BW on a hilly stage: PN 2011

there was no proper hilly stage in PN 2011, besides that is a different wiggins

just check the 2 time trials of the tour last year, wiggins crushed both but on the flat one he did it with a much bigger margin

but i guess i am just "deluded" because i give nibali a small edge over merckx err i mean wiggins
