That was a course for pure GC guys though wasn't it. At that point Wiggins was briefly between the autobus and the "Bigs". Not ideally suited to a TT course with climbing.

Don't recall Garmin having anybody (GC) to ride for at that point.

I think it indicates just how much stronger Wiggo is today. Almost everybody expects Wiggo to crush Nibali in the uphill TT in the Giro this year.

That's not entirely true. In fact that Giro marked his first climbing performance: on the stage to Alpe di Suisi, which Menchov won. There he (and Vaughters) got the confidence he could do something in the Tour.

Of course that Wiggo wasn't anywhere close to today's Wiggo, but not as far away as you suggest.

Nibbles is a crafty rider, I rate his ability to find time in opportunistic scenarios and the giro generally provides these chances more so then the tour and vuelta.

But Hesjedal is not the type of rider that gets suprised by Nibali's craftiness. Hesjedal is an mtb-er and great bike handler and descender as well.

That's more or less all I meant - his climbing was at an intermediate stage between his autobus period and his GC contender period, at that Giro. The TT was suited to a GC type rider that can climb and TT as opposed to a heavy TT specialist.

Yes, but he wasn't heavy anymore. The Tour in which he got 4th followed just a month after that Giro, after all.

Well that's true, but he evidently wasn't climbing as well at the Giro as the Tour.
