But more serious... That actually rarely happens: a pre race GC favourite, a real big gun, getting seriously ill during a three week stage race. I already wondered in the past why this happens rather seldom. But one thing is for sure, he won´t pull out if he sees the slightest chance he could finish the Giro on the podium, still.

He´ll be treated with antibiotics, certainly. That´s the regular treatment in this case. And it´s really, really dangerous for your health. Normally, you´d be advised to stay in bed for one week while on antibiotics... Especially the heart is in danger, otherwise. A myocarditis could be the result... :(

Mainly because he's grown back some balls.

Mainly: Wiggins and the flu. He couldn't even follow the chasing group.

duh. he was mentally blocked after seeing the rain this morning. let alone after dropping on every corner. same happened in that stage he crashed, he couldn't follow henao and uran neither in that park on the flat. don't start blaming this on sickness. go read all the web pages. so many riders are sick and they finish in first group

henao is also sick but he finished in first group. explain... half the peloton is sick in this giro

Wiggins was bright red in the face as though he was having breathing problems. He didn't look good at all. I expect him to leave the race especially if the weather stays bad. Maybe bronchitis or something.

There are, you know, different types of sick, even with the same bug/virus.

Your trolling is getting pretty boring now.

it's you who is trolling my friend. so there are different sicknesses and just wiggins has that one sickness that makes him not follow on the flat? oh lol

Wiggins lost 30 seconds on a mountain stage which didn't play to his strengths only two days ago, he can't be that ill. He is clearly completely shot to pieces mentally.

Tomorrow we will know. Do you think he might be training too hard? because his immune system looked really weak. Everyone gets sick of course. He is skinnier so he got cold easily and the faulty changed weather doesn't help his case. He should be resting in bed for sure.

That would be serious...

They just said he was at 5'22" on GC, so lost 3'17" today, doesn't really matter if he's sick as a dog.

If an infection moves to someones chest then yes, it can be a very different beast. Not everyone is susceptible to illness in the same way, that's why not everyone is killed in an epidemic (see Spanish Flu or the Black Death as extreme case or Measles as a less extreme case).

If Wiggins is particularly susceptible to a particular infection it is perfectly possible it could make him much worse than anyone else.

Something has to be wrong with him, though. He has been pro for so long, and was successful on all areas, including the track. Before May 2013, there was never a slight hint he could have a serious lack of bike handling skills on descents and within the peloton.

I guess it´s a combination of illness, currently lacking trust in his handling skills, and slight resignation that his shape might not be as special as it was in Tour 2012. In 2012, from Algarve to London, he was a class of his own, and nothing in the world could stop him from winning the hardest bike races in the world. At the moment, everything seems wrong with him. But if there is someone who has the experience, the class and the self confidence to fight out of this situation, it´s him.
