2013 Giro d'Italia Stage 13: Busseto - Cherasco 254km

Technical overview:
The longest stage of the Giro, flat on paper, but it won't feature a bunch sprint. 254 kms with 180 kms totally flat, before some hills. Here are the final kms:

As you can see, the GPM of Tre Cuni (approx 10 kms at 5%), precedes two other small bumps near the end. The final 6 kms are perfectly flat and straight.

Perfect stage for a break: though weather conditions, 250+ kilometres, hilly final part. Only a hard man can take this.

FDJ say he's going back to France tomorrow, but do they mean after the stage rather than before?,as I think the stage could be ideal for him.

Me too, but in re reading it FDJ could mean he returns to France tomorrow [AFTER riding the last stage he has any hope in, bar the final day, which he won't be dragging himself through the mountains for].

I'm confused. Seems odd to go home and not ride tomorrows stage to me.

So he wont start tomorrow. Nacer is somehow climbing very bad this Giro so I dont think he would have had a chance anyway. But I agree that it would be a perfect stage for him if he had his normal climbing legs.

If Cav, Goss, Degenkolb and Bouhanni were all in the game, this could have been a great fight. Not enough interest in the peloton to chase a break now methinks. Balance of power firmly with the break.

i heard rain for this, going be some wet asses with this early stat and some serious distacne, an early climb might been nice to help give something break to play for, even the sprints are not till later in the day

Wiggins has no chance of winning this race anyway and may even lose contact coming up that climb if conditions are terrible and he is still not well.

OMQS may chase a break then try and and nurse Cav up the climbs. If Cav doesn't make it nobody else will chase and breakaway will win.

Sprinters teams to control the race, only to find the finale is too tough. Punchers to try their hands only for a reduced bunch sprint to be taken out by a GC contender.

Honestly this is Goss' best chance. Cav is unlikely to get over the climbs. If Goos and Orica can manage to get in then surely he will win this. Cav has been stellar this Giro...unbeatable as long as someone can get him to the last 5 kms...

Giro is over for Wiggins. Is he actually going to continue...
