No, a crash is always a very bad mental setback opposed to illness, so it's much harder to return to a good level. A virus or disease isn't the rider's fault in most cases. The crash and his injured bones however made Schleck wonder if he still had the skill to compete. He's still searching for confidence to ride in the peloton, sad but true.

Hushovd at least knew at a certain time last year the virus had disappeared from his blood, allowing him to build his form for 2013. Schleck still had the mental and physical relapses. Hoogerland will probably be suffering the same consequences from his training crash.
